We're thinking of getting the kids a play kitchen for Christmas. I think they'll go nuts for it. But it's expensive, so I'm in a panic of second guessing - what if they're just  ? Are there any kids that actually don't dig play kitchens?

(OK, time to go turn off my brain, I'm obviously thinking too much! )

I don't know-my kids better love theirs! It's their Christmas present! LOL!

Have you looked at the Black Friday ads? Costco? I've seen some on sale(maybe for $100). We got the 50's Diner for $149.99 last month. Good luck with your decision. But, if I were to guess-they are going to LOVE it!

Mine didn't like the Laugh N Learn play kitchen. They had it from when they were 11 months old till I just sold it 2 weeks ago and they're almost 3. And my younger son (now 15 months) didn't play with it either.....

But they LOVE their play kitchen's at school, so I'm tryin again with the 50's diner for this christmas. I'm thinking it was just the TYPE of kitchen and that there wasn't a lot of things to really play with on the laugh n learn....

BTW, check out Meijer.com. I found the 50's diner there for $125. Even with shipping costs, it's cheaper than anywhere else I found, which was Sears for $135 and then $149 everywhere else....

its funny that you say that about the Laugh and Learn Kitchen....my mom has it and they still play with it at 3 1/2!

You can check craigslist. I got mine from there for half the price. I don't think any kitchen is getting on sale for Black Friday this year (I looked at the ads).

Mine don't play with theirs. But, I'm not so sure it is aversion to the toy itself or toy over-load. Everyone insists on getting them so many toys and even though I purge often, they just have too many and it leads to them playing with very few of them. The play kitchen is in a corner and the only thing they do with it is hide small toys in the oven and cabinets.

:wavey: Mine don't like theirs either. But we got it for them early and it isn't the best one. I think they would have liked one of the nicer ones better. This one is very limited.

    I ditto Craigslist.

Mine love their preschool hand-me-down. It's wooden and big and what you'd typically find in a classroom setting. My mom got it when a local school closed down. It seems like the smaller kitchens with lots of fake colors and gimmicks aren't always well loved, but that the wood ones and the larger more realistic plastic ones do better with kids. I can tell you that every kid under the age of 8 who has come to our house goes directly for the play kitchen.

I totally agree. We too have a wooden school hand-me-down that my kids play with all the time. Everyone that comes into our house asks about it. It is a very simple stove, sink, burner, cabinet configuration. I also think it is an age thing. Mine played a lot with the food as 2s, young 3s, but now at 4.5 are really into the cooking part.

That's funny! I just posted a question about kitchen playsets! lol..Ihaven't seen any crazy sales and trust me, I have been on the hunt! I orginally wanted a good sturdy wood kitchen but they are sooo expensive and some aren't even real wood just that cheap fake stuff! So, now I am looking at the Step 2 lifestyle custom kitchen or partytime kitchen. Not sure if the custom kitchen is big enough? Any ideas?

We have a very small "kitchen" (really just a stove that sits on the floor) and they still play with it all the time. In anyone else's house, they head straight for the play kitchen if there is one. They LOVE it. We've thought about getting them a "real" one (bigger, with a fridge, etc.) but just don't have the space.

My kids could care less, so yes...there are kids out there that don't dig them :) I'm sorry that this might cause issues, but I thought I'd be honest.

My girls love their 50s Diner that they got last Christmas, but they rarely play with it like a kitchen. Sometimes they make food and serve their dolls and stuffed animals, but they also use it for other things. This morning Meara put two of her 'pets' (small stuffed animals) in the oven for a nap :D They also pretend to give their toys baths in the sink. And they just love playing in the booth with their puzzles and books and blocks.

We have the wooden kitchen from Constructive Playthings, and also the Step 2 50's Diner...they like both, but the former is by FAR the favorite. Maybe the less gadgety (okay, that's not a word), the better?

Kevan's favorite thing on the planet is to "cook" -- so if you give him any sort of bowl/pot/dish and any sort of stick that can serve as a utensil, he's good!

We have the older Little Tikes Country Kitchen. My two love playing with it, although don't always use it as a kitchen. They love hiding things in the cabinets, stove and refridgerator. I wondered why they didn't 'cook' very often, as they have tons of food, and realized that we never got them utensils/plates/cups and pots&pans for the kitchen....DUH!! They are now on their Christmas list. I'm thinking that they'll play with it alot more once they actually have the 'accessories' to go with it :)

    April :)

We got L&L a the Little Tykes wooden kitchen for Christmas last year. It's really nice but they don't play with it that much. For them, it's really hit or miss, they will play with it a bit for awhile & then not at all for a long time. What they do really love & play with all the time is the food that I got them with the kitchen. Sometimes I wish I had saved the money & just bought the food and skipped the kitchen!

It is shocking that my twins' don't even play with their kitchen. My son like to hide his toys in dishwasher, cabinets, or dump those food out of the basket bin. My daughter rarely play with it. I brought the largest set of Lifestyle Step2 from our local yard sales (you should check to see if your town have a website for it, if not, Craiglist!).

There are many times I attempt to get rid of it. We also have the Step2 table w/2 chairs that match their play kitchen. I'll wait until one more year and if they don't play by time they turn 4; they'll be GONE!

Mine!!!! I searched last year all over for one I liked. They were on sale for $79.99 at walmart last year but by the time I got around to getting it it was sold out. I ended up finding it for $130.00 someplace else and my kids placed with it Christmas Day at grandmas and that was it. Never again touched it. Now it sits in there room and collects dust.
