*best* formula

if your child had no issues (meaning reflux, gas, spitup, colic, etc) is there a *best* formula? one that is essentially the best for all babies? the soy post has me so nervous now!

 

What's best is what works for you and your babies. All formula is created equally nutritious for babies, it's strictly regulated.

For me personally I preferred Good Start for my kids. Some formulas have corn syrup as a main ingredient, and good start doesn't, so that was part of the deciding factor for me. I also feel, for my kids, that the extra step nestle takes to break down the whey proteins helps with the reflux and digestion issues (constipation and such).

Again though, it's whatever works for you and your babies that's going to be the best for them.

 

I totally agree. For us it was Similac Sensitive.

 

I supplemented with both ODD and now with the twins.

With ODD, the best formula was the one that I could get for the least amount of money. I bought the big can of Siilac powder at BJ's most often, but if I had checks and/or coupons for Enfamil, I would buy that instead.

With the twins, my Allison has a touch of reflux. She is fine with regular formula, but we use Similac ready to drink because it is easier to digest. So that is the best for us.

I agree that's it's strictly a personal preference & whatever agrees with your babies tummy the best. For me, it always meant whatever they would drink & keep down that was the cheapest!

 

Our pedi says her "favorite" formula (for reasons a pp mentioned) is Nestle Good Start. our boys digested that the best. I do think the comfort proteins and the lack of HFCS help. But your babies might tolerate another formula better; it's worth trying various brands, including some store brands, to see how they do.

 

Ditto on the Goodstart. Our pediatrician and our visiting nurse recommended it. However, it did not work for our babies who have reflux. We use Similac Sensitive, and I am trying the nighttime restfull formula from Enfamil to see if that helps them sleep longer. (my reviews are mixed)

My pediatrician and nurse both confirmed the information on soy. They said avoid it whenever possible, but if there is a milk allergy, it's an alternative.

The pp is right....formulas are carefully regulated. It's whatever works best.

I remember being a little leery about the Kirkland formula from Costco, but it meets the same strict standards as the big brands. And my boys like it. But with the reflux, I still prefer to use the sensitive.

:laughing: My pedi said put them on anything BUT Goodstart! It just goes to show that there is no "right" answer. The peds problem wasn't with the formula but with the company Nestle. They did some fishy things in Africa that leads her not to trust them. We used Similac Advance and were happy with it. The boys had very mild silent reflux and we just added rice cereal to the bottles and it worked great. I started buying Target and Walmart versions of it and realized that EVERYTHING (right down to the inside of the canister) was exactly the same. The boys didn't even notice a difference and I saved $$.

 

I agree, it is whatever works best for you and your family. Formula is FDA regulated so all of them are about the same. We use Kirkland brand because of the price and my kids have no issues with it.
