It started with the flu (presumed H1N1) on Halloween. She was sick that whole week. After the flu/fever kicked her asthma really flared and she had to do nebs around the clock for a week. Then came the UTI which she is still on antibiotics for. Today, she had a follow up with her Asthma Dr. b/c she needed to start of the nebulizer as well as take her emergency oral prednisone. He wants to change a few of her meds, but while there, she had a slight temp (99.5) and had a "viral rash" all over her trunk and back. I'm telling you, if it's not one thing it's another. This child gets everything 100x's worse than the rest of us. She's been hospitalized twice each for 5 days in the past b/c of illnesses that all the kids had, but she just got it worse than the others and ended up dehydrated (Rotavirus, RSV/Pneumonia). I'm hoping this is the end of her illness streak for awhile. Goodness! Maybe by the time she gets to Kindergarted she'll have built up immunity for everything imagineable that she won't have any more issues. One can hope, right?

 Poor baby, and poor mommy! I'm so sorry you've had such a rough couple of weeks. Here's hoping she's getting it all over with now so that once she's in school, she'll be nice and healthy with a strong immune system.

Sounds like my little man, but literally he started getting sick the day after his sisters service around 9 days old. He had a couple of other issues and then along the way one of the specialist checked his immunoglobulins (A, M, G, and E) and found that he was immunodeficient. It took awhile to find out that it was a childhood form that he should eventually grow out of, but it leaves him extremely susceptible to infections whether viral or bacterial and when he gets sick... he gets it way worse than anyone else or catches things that nobody else gets. It wouldn't hurt to have a little bloodwork done on her by a pediatric immunologist just to have piece of mind. It definitely has made a world of difference for parker. good luck and i hope she feels better soon.

   So sorry for you both! It sounds like things have been rough for your little sweetie! This sounds alot like my nephew. When he gets sick, he REALLY gets sick. He just can't shake it like other kids. They have pretty much said he is asthmatic without labeling him as an ashmatic just yet.

Hopefully, she gets well and stays well real soon!

That's interesting. Her asthma Dr. is allergy/asthma/immunology. I'll have to ask him about this next time we take her in. I think we have another follow up in a month or so.

Ugh, poor baby and mama! If you're not already, you might try giving her some probiotics to help regulate her system after all of these sicknesses. Antibiotics kill so many of the beneficial bacteria in the digestive system and probiotics are designed to replenish the supply...

You know, that's a good idea too. She has been eating a lot of yogurt, but I should get some more probiotics. Maybe I'll run by the Health food/vitamin store later. See, that's what I love about TS! If you don't think of it, someone else will.

Melissa, get some vitamin D3 while you're at it. It's supposed to boost the immune system... and I found chewable tablets that my girls love. Seriously, they beg for vitamin D every morning.

I would just ask for a full panel of blood ran on her as well as all the immunoglublins and subtypes for IGg. My son has asthma as well and it took us awhile to get a good doc that knew what they were talking about. You really will benefit from talking to a pediatric immunologist/pulmonologist since children are just harder to diagnose. The numbers on the blood work should give you a pretty good idea if anything is out of whack. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Thanks Sandy. I'll make a note and make sure to ask for it. She seems to finally be feeling better from her back to back illnesses. My DH took her to her asthma appt. this past time and he told me that the Dr. said if she was truly controlled with her asthma meds, then the flu should not have given her any respiratory issues. I thought that was one of the biggest issues with the flu. I was surprised b/c most people would end up with a cough with the flu, but he said she shouldn't have had an asthma reaction with it. But, that's how her's reacts. She get the congestion or a cold and she can't shake the respiratory part of it. So, he feels she's not well "controlled" and uppped her flovent (steroid inhaler). I'll definately ask for the bloodwork though. At least we can see if something else is going on.

I don't think i really agree with what the doctor said because i have asthma myself so no matter how well you are "controlled" nothing is 100%. sometimes you deal with nasty viruses/bacteria that flare up your chest no matter how much steriods are in your chest.... hmmmmm. I have very controlled asthma, but it never fails that everytime i get sick my chest is horrible. It's the nature of how my asthma plays out. I prevent all i want, but it's still not a guarantee. Good luck with the bloodwork and hopefully it's just her asthma and nothing else. Let us know what happens.

I don't think I agree with him either. I feel like it's controlled as long as she doesn't get sick and goes to her chest. We only have to do Albuterol maybe 3-4 x's a year (until the cold/cough clears up) and have only needed to use the oral prednisone twice. I'll update when we go back. Thanks!
