A family member bought the boys an extravagant gift - UHG boots. Something I would never buy them but do think they are cute and they need some winter boots to keep their little toes toasty warm. My first thought is return them and get a bunch of other stuff they need but my second thought is keep them and allow them this little luxury. What would you do?

If they really need other things, I'd return them. At this age they don't even understand luxury. If you feel like they will need them, then I'd keep them.

That's my two cents for what it's worth. :)

I would take them back, go to Target and buy the non-name brand version of the boots, and spend the rest of the money on stuff they need. :good:

I one-hundred percent, whole-heartedly agree with this sentiment:)

How much do you think they'll really wear them? Maybe if it's not too much you can sell them next year. I bet you'll get some good money for them.

I agree with what others have said about them not fitting for long and all that. However, we have some family members who have bought the girls nicer things (not as expensive as UHG boots though) and they would honestly be hurt if I returned it and the girls never wore it. I agree that it's a waste to spend much on shoes and if you think they would be ok with you swapping them then go for it.

I have to laugh - just realized I didnt spell Ugg right :)

I think I am going to try and return them - they are also the wrong size - but I dont have any receipt so not sure how it will go.

If they're too small, this won't work, but what about having the kids use the boots for now, but then when they outgrow them, you could sell them at a consignment shop. You'd still get a good chunk of change for them which you could use for things they need, and your kids would get the benefit of the nice boots for a while. I think it might be awkward if you see the relative and the kids are wearing knockoff Uggs.

Yeah, if it's a relative you see alot, I'd keep the Uggs - exchange them for the correct size. It would be awkward.

I got the girls the knock-off version at Target and they are just as cute!

You could cheat, dress your kids in winter clothes with the boots on, take a few pictures, and as long as you'll never see that family member in the winter, just post the pictures in the middle of winter. This way no hurt feelings and you can return the boots... lol. Seriously though, it depends of the family member ; if it's someone you never see, or someone you see a lot etc.

My main thought is practicality. Are Uggs water-proof? If they're not, then there's no point in having them (assuming you live in an area that gets snow).

If it's a relative you see often, I'd keep the boots (wouldn't want said relative to get offended or hurt). But if you don't see her and you don't want the boots, then yes, by all means, return them.

We dont see them very often - probably wont see them again for 6 months or so. I was thinking about the practicality of them too - they are somewhat soft on the bottom and highly doubt they are waterproof. We get some snow - but a lot of rain. The boys arent walking yet - but they will be soon enough.

    These are the boots :)

I agree, given that they don't seem very practical I would probably swap them out.

its a hard call... the person who got them for you wanted you to have the boots... I say at least get some pictures of them in the boots.. and hopefully you can at least get them in a size they will be able to wear... I have some outfits that were $35 each, that my mil got them for Christmas... so totally not my style... but we do see her weekly... and I had to exchange one shirt for a correct size. I still can't believe that they are wearing $70 worth of clothing for a few hours... I can go to a consignment or family sale and get 2+ bags of clothing for $70!! anyway, enjoy the luxury... and by all means get some cute professional portraits in them to remember them by!

I'd probably return them for other items they needed.

    Does the gifter live nearby?
