Friday we are leaving for a 24 hour car trip, broken up in two days of 12 hours. I am trying to figure out what would be good snacks that won't be a complete and total mess. Anyone have any ideas?

    little baggies of cereal
    graham crackers
puffs? (my silly boys still like those puffs...maybe they are the only almost 2 year olds who do, though!)
    quaker oatmeal cookies
    nutrigrain type bars
    bread/cinnamon bread
    little pieces of cheese
    dried fruits

I'm hitting a block for any others...good luck on your drive! Sounds like a real adventure! :)

I hadn't thought about puffs. They haven't had those in a long time but would probably still love them.

We did the trip last year and honestly it was horrible. Hopefully this year will go a bit better. I think them facing forward will help. When we stop for meals we are going to try to find places with play areas that they can burn off energy. We are taking new books and toys they haven't seen to help keep them busy. Hopefully it won't be as bad.

Dianna, wishing you all a wonderful trip this time around.
My kids still love puffs too and I agree with Jori's recommendations. My kids also love Beech Nut's Yogurt Nibbles too.

I will have to look for the yogurt nibbles, never heard of them.

Great suggestions already...for long trips like these, I usually clear out the snack aisle at Babies R Us! Some faves are Annies cheddar/pretzel bunny mix, Jammy Sammys (think nutrigrain but with pb and j), organic toaster tarts, veggie stix (from Trader Joes and Costo--they LOVE them), Ritz bitz with cheddar and/or peanut butter in the middle, mini rice cakes, etc...

Great ideas so far! I don't know if I really have anything to add, but do you have the little snack cups that they stick their hand in? We love those, although they don't completely stop the mess!
Oh, and teddy grahams. My girls love teddy grahams.

My son really liked crasins, fruit snack and the mum mums toddler cookies at that age and I liked it because it didn't make a big mess :)

The boys use to love Teddy Grahams, but won't touch them now.
Veggie sticks we are taking, they love them.
Just got 10 for 10 on the box of animal crackers when grocery shopping.
we have the snack cups but those actually make more of a mess b/c they know they can hold back one of the flaps, holding them upside down, shake them and get stuff everywhere LOL

I was very disappointed to discover that snack cups are not spill proof. Mine do the same exact thing. I said to DH, they really need to test these products on twins.

Nancy that is so true! The boys had it figured out the day we bought them. Lucas figured out how to dump stuff out and Dillon just sat there eating everything his brother dumped on the floor LOL Now who was smarter, the one doing the work or the one who knew he didn't have to do any work to get the food?? ROFLMAO

Mine also like crackers - I buy the box of wheat crackers with cheese (6 come in a pack). All three of mine love them. I'm going to keep checking this post as we are making a 16 hour move home in about a month!
