Hi everyone! I'm only 14 weeks but during week 16 my OB is starting me on P17 hydroxyprogesterone shots due to my history of PTL with my first two pregnancies. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who is taking them or has taken them? What was your reasoning for taking them? Would love to hear your stories! Thanks:)

My next door neighbor took them with baby #3 and 4 due to PTL and delivering around 34 weeks with #1 and 2. They worked great for her. Baby #2 was born at 38 weeks and baby #4, born in Aug., was actually 3 days late.

    Good luck!

I had PTL with my son too (started at 24 weeks, though I made it to 36 weeks). My peri is starting my 17P shots next week. He said they're not as effective with twins, but for moms who've had PTL before, it certainly can't hurt. I'm hoping they work! I'm also hoping they send the vial home with me so I can do them myself (or actually dh can). We live 45 minutes from my peri...and I already go twice a month, but every week would be a challenge right now. I'm used to IM (intramuscular) shots b/c I had IVF to get preggo.

I hope the shots work for you too! How many weeks are you now? Are you feeling pretty good? Hopefully you can take the shots home with you b/c you do have a drive to your peri. I look forward to hearing about your journey and comparing our experiences with the shots!

Thanks so much for your kind words. I will be 15 weeks tomorrow (I think...OMgoodness, totaly preggo brain moment there). I'm having some random uterine tightness and irritability, so hoping the shots will help relax things and let these babies keep cooking!!!!

I had the shots twice a week from 24 weeks to 34 weeks when I delivered. When I was on hospital bedrest, it was no big deal, but when I came home for a few weeks, I had to have a nurse come out to my house twice a week and give them to me. I was on a whole cocktail of meds to deal with contractions!

Oh my, you had two shots a week! It was well worth it, your twins are beautiful and healthy:) Did you dialate early as well with all your contractions? Thanks for sharing!

    Momof2+2...

We are very close! I surely hope we can make it as long as possible! It's really good to hear someone else going through the same thing as I am. I don't have any friends who even had PTL let alone twins. Wishing us both 'cervixes of steel', lol!!!!
