My husband is coming home tonight for a few days (yay!). My kids are excited and this was the conversation we had about it:

Me: Daddy is coming home tonight. He'll he home after you go to bed.
    Alex: Daddy is coming home?
    Me: Yeah.
    Alex: Tonight?
    Me: Yeah.
    Alex: Oh! I like Daddy!
Alex: Can we go get him?
Me: No, honey. He won't be home until after you go to bed tonight.
    Nikki: Daddy is coming home?
    Me: Yes.
    Nikki: Now?

:gah: This went on with some variation for 20 minutes. Argh! I feel like I repeat myself constantly and it's starting to get to me. I don't want them to feel like they can't ask me questions or ask for clarification, but that just felt overboard to me. I'm pretty sure this is typical, but man...I'm not a fan of this phase.

Phew! Thanks for letting me vent ;-)

I still have conversations like that with my 15yr old. So I cannot comment, only send you a hug and let you know that I feel your pain. :gah:

edited because I totally forgot to say YAY!!! for your husband getting to come home!!!!

Sometimes I just say, "Listen -- I'm going to tell you one more time. Daddy is coming home tonight. I will not say it again." And then when they ask me again, I refuse to speak, or say something silly like "I hear a little bird asking me the same thing I just told you 15 times." When they were younger, this just frustrated them, but at this age, they often get the message and quit asking (at least for an hour or so).
