sorry if this seems like an intrusive question, but I am curious. When expecting twins, is having sex still ok? Especially for a woman to orgasm.

Of course I realise that it probably depends on your medical history etc. Does it maybe get advised against after a certain time eg: 30 weeks?

Hahahahahahahahaha (Laughs to self after reading back what was typed) Sex? What sex life?!

Id ask your doctor at your next appointment. Although, if they havent said anything to you yet you probably dont need to abstain at this point.
I was having sex until I hit 29 weeks. I had to go on "pelvic rest" and bedrest at that point becausee I was dilating & effacing/ experiencing pre-term labor.

2xjoy, I'm sooooo glad you asked this b/c I was getting around to presenting it myself.

My husband and I are still having sex although only once a week. It's tough finding a comfortable postion of course and after orgasm my stomach gets so tight it's almost frightening to me. With my three singleton pregnancies, we were able to continue right up to their births. I'm not sure that's likely to happen with this pregnancy though. I think it all depends on what your physician says is okay and what feels comfortable to you.

I agree with pp and suggest asking your doctor. :good:

My doctor never told me to not have sex but we didn't the whole time. :pardon: I couldn't risk ptl or anything for sex.

I am nearing 31 weeks and still no restriction on sex. Although my nurse laughs and reminds me that if I "want" a restriction, she sure can give me one ;)

DH is not thrilled, but understands why things have slowed down.

I am only 15 weeks along, and have already been put on pelvic rest due to spotting and cramping associated with placenta previa. I think it really depends on your situation rather than how far along you are. If you are 30 weeks with no problems then you are probably better off than 15 with problems. If your doctor hasn't brought up limiting yourself I would assume it would be fine. Maybe something you could ask about to make sure though.

The doc will let you know. Basically if you have imminent signs of labor (& are too early) you should not just in case it could put you into labor. I had bleeding early and cervical changes at 30 weeks so I was on restriction at various times. I will say that at about 34 weeks I couldn't really do it very well so we put ourselves on restriction until 37 weeks when I determined I was ready to have them OUT, LOL.

I had sex my whole pregnancy up to 9 hours before my unscheduled c section :) It gets complicated with a big belly, but just work with it! good luck

DH and I have been having sex this whole pregnancy, although I have to admit it's been barely once a week. With his busy schedule, me always being tired and sore, and the giant beach ball belly, it makes it kind of hard to "get in the mood"... After last week doing the deed then having the major contractions for the next few days we decided to not do it for a while... with my singleton pregnancy we had sex the entire time, all of the time, it's hard for me this time around, pregnant sex is the best sex for me!

Talk to your dr. about it if you are concerned at all!

My Peri advised against it. So no sex for us throughout my pregnancy.

I think that's what worries me the most. After orgasm, I get this really tight ball sensation and I can't help feeling that can't be good. Having said that though, with my previous 2 pregnancies, we had regular sex all the way through. It's just that with there being 2 in there, I'm paranoid about doing anything that might make them come too early!

As all PP have said, ask your Dr. I only would get 3-7 days “rest” here and there and then the Dr would ok it (I even had a cerclage, though that was removed at 35w), BUUUT it is also what made my water break @ 36 w 2d… right after I… um… you know

My poor, poor dh...I have been on pelvic rest the entire pregnancy so far (I'm 16 weeks) and will be on it the rest of pregnancy too. Although, my dh did suggest that, if I make it close to term...well maybe we'll try then if we get cleared! I had IVF, so I was on pelvic rest the first 8 weeks...then at 8.5 weeks I had a serious bleeding episode due to a subchorionic hematoma...and NOW I have an irritable uterus (and history of PTL)!!! I was also told no orgasm at all, even without the intercourse part, since that is what usually causes the uterine contractions. Sigh, it's going to be a loooooooong time for us.

Oh i had no idea what Cerclage was till i came to TS :good: . I was basically sewed up (DH said w/ barb wire  ):

"When a woman’s cervix is weak (sometimes called an incompetent cervix) she is more likely to have a baby born prematurely because the cervix shortens or opens too early. In order to prevent premature labor, a woman’s doctor may recommend a cervical cerclage. A cerclage is used to prevent these early changes in a woman’s cervix, thus preventing premature labor. A closed cervix helps a developing baby stay inside the uterus until the mother reaches 37-38 weeks of pregnancy."

I was told it was safe after 12 weeks b/c I had some bleeding at 6 weeks. When I asked if there was a point we had to stop I was told as long as I didn't go into preterm labor or start to efface we could go as long as we wanted. Well after about 27 weeks I was so huge I didn't really want to any more lol. Now Dh is lucky if its once every two weeks and thats even pushing it for me being close to 34 weeks!

Our Doctor's only concern was sex "after" she had the twins for fear of getting Prego again.

Needless to say I left for Iraq at her 19th week and she had them before her 25th week. I would have been back at her 37th week and we were fully going to try and squeeze one in before the birth...but...

You are going to get a lot of thoughts and opinions. Just like some doctors don't want women to go past 37 weeks, while others like mine say he would take us all the way up to week 40 if we would have made it that far with no issues.

I would just say do what your doctor feels you should do, or just take someone elses doctors advice and have sex as long as you want and just don't tell your doc.

I seriously doubt there is that much of a risk if you are not having any complications. I would think if there was, every docotr "you would think" would be adiment about no sex after a certain point.

...and my dr. has twin 13 year old boy twins that weighed 8lbs each and his wife went to 40 weeks and he said they had no issues with sex (not that I wanted to know my doctor's sex life...ha)

:( My doc told us no! This is our first pregnancy, mono-di twins. Even before we were told that they were mono-di, before any other complications, the doctor said no sex. My cervical length has been 3.25" at every two-week ultrasound. So we decided that the doctor just won't know! ;) The hardening of my belly freaks me out a little, but I get that constantly anyway. I guess I just have an irritable uterus? The doctor didn't seem too alarmed at all by that!
