Getting mad at toys

Caleb is 14 mos, still can't really talk, so I know he can't tell me what his problem is with a toy. But he has this new thing where he gets "mad" at a toy, like starts crying and screaming, maybe throws the toy or bangs it on the floor, like he's frustrated that it won't do something. What he wants it to do, I don't know. He did this with a toy car yesterday that doesn't really "do" anything. I ended up taking the car and hiding it, but then he was mad that I took it away. :wacko:
I know there's not really a solution to this problem, it's more of a vent. It's just driving me nuts! If the toy is annoying you, stop playing with it!

 

LOL my DS is like that too with this particular toy. It's a piggy bank that makes sounds and you can open the belly of the pig to get the toy money out.

My DS opens the belly and sticks his binkie in there then closes it. He gets frustrated if he can't get it open again to retrieve the binkie. It's funny at first but it does get so annoying because he does it over and over. How he gets it open sometimes and not others I don't know.

 

Both of my kids were famous for doing this. Now they get their feelings hurt when the cats don't want to play with them. I don't know how many times I've had to soothe tears because the cats just want to be left alone. Get the hint kiddos!

 

WHen this happens it is total frustration. I will put a name to it (frustrated) and talk gently and show them how the toy works. IF it continues I hide toy and try to swap with a less frustrating toy. :hug: It doesn't always work.

 

HA! We have the same toy and both of my LO's get frustrated with it...they have trouble getting the money in, and once they do they cant open the belly part to get it back out. So, we only play with that toy if I'm sitting right there and can help

 

Yeah I can understand it when it's a toy that is supposed to do something and they can't quite do it. With that piggy bank, I remember with the girls them getting ALL upset about it, I didn't know what was wrong, then I figured out they didn't want it in counting mode, but song mode. Eeek. The car his was mad at didn't "do" anything, just a plain car that you push around. Maybe he thought it was supposed to light up and play music. Who knows!

 

LOL we have the same piggy bank. Nate has been "cheating" since he was 10 months old; he'll stick his finger in the slot hit the trigger so it sounds like he's been depositing coins! :laughing:

My guys get frustrated with certain toys, so I just remove them for a week or so and bring them back later. Mostly it's because they do stupid stuff like shove a Little People doll into their choo-choo train and get pissed because it jams up the works. :headbang:

 

Yep, happens here too, mostly its Clay. We have a little train that he will push around and then all of a sudden start screaming at it and throw is across the room. Then he will go pick it up, push it some more and do the same thing. He gets a warning the first time, then it gets taken away.
