I have tried swaddling my daughter and son.

What are the different ways of swaddling?

My daughter when she has gas she stretches out of the swaddle.

My son is so solid it is hard to swaddle him.

My daughter loves it but it just doesnt stay on.

I swaddle them in a receiving blanket.

My boys lived in the Kidopotamous velcro swaddle blankets for the first 10 weeks. Seriously, I had like 10 of them becuase they would puke or poop on them and no other blanket worked. I found them at BRU or BBB for like $10 a piece. Other moms swear by the Miracle Blanket, but I never tried it.

Miracel blanket was the best investment for us. With my older son I used the thermal blankets that were bigger and had some stretch to them - and reinforced with an ace wrap to keep them nice and snug.

I second this. Those swaddle blankets were a huge lifesaver for us the first couple of months!

ok, we use the receiving blanket---Good to have large one and no stretch to it.

    How we do it:
    lay out blanket
fold down small triangle where back of babys neck would go-make sure top of blanket above shoulders. this is key to keeping them in swaddle.
Hold one arm by side and take blanket diagonal down over shoulder on that side and across babes body-tuck under babys bottom-while crossing over pull blanket on opposite shoulder very snugly/tight away from babies body to make sure no slack.
put opposite arm down tight by side and take blanket across like a seatbelt-wrap behind and bring around and tuck over shoulder and in blanket.

I swear the MIRACLE BLANKET is truly that, a miracle. All of my kids have loved it. I tried not swaddling my three month old twins last night, and used a sleep sack. CLEARLY not ready for that yet. LOL. So we are back to the miracle blankets tonight for some more sound sleep. OH, and my daughter has a lot of gas issues too, and does not unswaddle herself and she is a total leg lifter gassy girl!

I'm another one for the kiddopotomus swaddle blankets! I am sure Miracle Blankets are as good or better (they're just more expensive so I never tried them). We used receiving blankets for a month or so but the babies soon became too big and busted out. They can't do that with the swaddle blankets, though sometimes their little hands are peaking out like straight jackets in the morning. Both have gas, they just raise their legs up and let it go, no need to come out of the swaddle ;) We have also tried to move to the sacks, and it didn't work, so I'll soon be investing in larger kiddopotomus blankets!

We swaddled util 4 1/2 months when ours started really wanting to suck on their hands at night...also the same time we started laying them down awake and they needed something to comfort themselves. I never found a swaddle contraption that kept the arms in (miracle blanket was just too expensive). What we did was get the waffle weave blankets because they are stretchy and bigger than receiving blankets (30 x 40). We swaddled tightly and then swaddled again...2 blankets so that they were snug. They never broke out of the double swaddle and slept very well.

That's it, I'm buying me some Kiddpotomus thingies. I have been thinking for about a week now that the boys are getting too big for standard receiving blankets, but have been using the big ones which I don't like. That ends today!

Thanks for the question & answers, ladies!
