Code! Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving - most retail stores have mega sales and open super early! I will give you an example of what happens - Last year we got a great deal on a flat screen TV it was like $278 BUT there were only a limited number of them so we had to be at the store at 3am and wait in a line to hopefully get one. Some stores have door busters for very early shoppers and in the past the sales have been over at like 1pm so the earlier the better!

I LOVE Black Friday!! Even if I don't see much that I really want, I LOVE to go! I would be super disappointed if I missed it! We also plan our attack on Thanksgiving day! it is just so much fun!

Oh, thanks for explaining it to me! No wonder I havent heard of it because we dont have "thanksgiving"
here in Australia! It sounds like it would be fun to go get new things! Maybe we should adopt it here :unknw:

They call it "black Friday" it's supposed to help stores get out of the "red" and into the "black" with all the sales they make.
It's the best time to get big ticket items if you are willing to wait in line for hours at 3 am. Last year my dh bought me a new laptop for about 250...I slept in...that's why he's the best ever!! This year we are thinking about upgrading our tv to a plasma and are planning on getting up super early to get the best deal.
I also love Black Friday...it's the offical kick off to the Christmas Season...my FAVORITE time of year!!!
    PS :yahoo: for peppermint mochas!!!!!

I'm supposed to me miss-anti-consumerism, but I LOVE Black Friday!
Last year was my first in ever-so-long and we only went two places, but I loved it. My dad was in the market for a new TV, he was ALL into the hype of going HD and wanted to be ready for February! We actually spent Tuesday of that week, checking out the things that were in the ads.
Dad decided he wanted the TV they had on offer at Walmart, so my mom and I tried on their 9 dollar jeans so we know what size to grab in the maddness. The ad said ladies Riders Instantly slims you and we both found the size we liked. But when we got home I was like MOM--these aren't the jeans we tried on. I know for two reasons, one, they didn't fit me, and two I always check to see where cloths are made on the ones we tried on were made in Mexico, I thought it was funny since I would be immeditately taking them back to Mexico. But the ones they had out that day were made in Nicaragua.

As you can see I'm still bumbed because I ended up with poor fiting jeans. BUT I got the most amazing deal on a 4MB USB drive also 9 dollars! All the other stores had the 2MB ones for that price last year.

I LOVE black friday!! My mom and I would go whenever the stores opened. Once it was 3 in the morning! We never shopped for gifts, it was just fun to be out and get in the spirit!!

I was on bed rest last year, and this year I have the boys so I won't be able to go out.

I may do some online shopping though!!

I think last time I checked it was around $600 one way but with the hight of our dollar at the moment it may be cheaper :p Sadly I have to decline as I just looked up the date and its the 26th of november for thanksgiving - My university interview date.

I wish Australia had as many wonderful holidays as the US!! :( I am jealous

When she died almost 3 years ago I started going with her and now it is our tradition. We love it. We start in the morning with breakfast then I have a couple mimosa's she drives and we go ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!! I uaually get 80% of my shopping done in one day!

Last year was the first time I did Black Friday and boy did I go to the extreme! I plan on doing it again this year! Our outlet mall does Midnight Madness that starts at 11 on Thanksgiving Day. You don't get the Black Friday deals until midnight, but can start the waiting in line w/ the stuff before that. I stocked up on winter clothes for this year! Really amazing deals! We shopped there until 4am then I went home to sleep for a bit before shopping after the doorbuster hours. This year though, I'm going to just head from there to Best Buy and get myself a laptop for Christmas! :) I can't wait! :smilie_xmas_116:

O.M.G!! I CAN'T DO BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING THIS YEAR!!! I am so bummed!! I can't go this year b/c I'm getting converted to a perm employee and I won't be getting a paycheck that Friday! I broke the news to DH today but I don't think it's sunk in yet. It'll be the first year in about 5 or so years that I haven't done any Black Friday shopping at all!! It's bittersweet b/c I'm getting converted to a perm employee but can't do my fav thing in the world...SHOPPING on the BEST shopping day of the year!!

I heard that yesterday! I don't think I will be at Old Navy at 3, but I think they are having great give aways.

 I have never shopped on Black Friday. Crowds of people pushing and shoving doesn't sound like fun. If I had someone to go with where I didn't have to drive in all the crazy traffic and to hang out with, that might be fun. Maybe some day I'll try it! ;)

This is my 3rd year going. We start at Kohl's and Target and then hit other places. We have never experienced pushing and shoving. Some nasty shoppers? Sure. But that's how it is the whole Christmas season anyway.

Black Friday is called Black Friday because it is the day that most businesses go from being in the red to being in the black. (At least it is for smaller retailers, etc. not really big stores like Kohl's, Walmart, Target, etc.)

A lot of stores open very early in the morning on the day after Thanksgiving and have sales to kick off the holiday season. This year it is later than it can be so many retailers are finding ways now to boost sales.

LOL Can ya tell I've worked retail for a long time??

There is an outlet mall about 3 miles from my house and last year they opened at Midnight to start the shopping. I know that I rang up quite a few people who had been out shopping since Midnight right after 6am and they still had a ton of other stores they were planning on shopping at.

We have an outlet mall too that opens at midnight, they serve wine and coffee and all kinds of stuff. I would go but it is about an hour away and puts a cramp in my time.

I have never experienced any pushing and shoving myself. Our Wal Mart lets you in to stand by what you want. SO I stood there for over an hour last year but the people walk in there about 15 minutes till and try to move in on the goods. The people that had waited with me put them in their place LOL. No yelling just positioned our carts appropriatly.

I also saw 2 ladies get into it over some last toy at Wal Mart, but the manager quickly kicked them out.

That is what they do here as well. For the big ticket items you form a line. That is why it is best to have a couple shopping buddies. If you want more than 1 thing, they can pick it up for you. :smilie_xmas_116:

I've never done the early, early morning Black Friday shopping before. I used to get out mid morning, but was on bedrest in 2007 and just did online shopping last year. I'll be checking out the advertisements and will likely be out in it this year. I'm actually excited! If I have to get up that early I'm in for the coffee fix too. Just had my first Peppermint Mocha of the season last Friday. Yum!!!

So, what is everyone watching for? Here's what I'll be watching for

    new TV for the den
    new laptop for me (maybe)
tricycles or ride ons for the boys
    tag jrs and books
Thomas or Gabba toys for cheap
    athletic clothing for me
    pants for DH
maybe some clothes if cute and cheap for the boys, but I don't think they need much more

Do they usually only let you get one of each item? Just wondering if I might need to rope in a friend in case I find something both boys have to have!

Countdown is on!! :clapping: I'm so excited for the feast and family time today. But about 12 hours from now I will be plopped on the couch with a glass of wine :drinks: planning my attack of the sales tomorrow!!! :woo:

I'm super excited! I couldn't fall asleep last night b/c I was planning my shopping strategies. My friend and I are doing the outlet at midnight then I'm going to Kohl's around 4 and Target after that. I decided the Best Buy laptop wouldn't be worth waiting in line at 3am! I'm going to take a nap with the boys today (while DH bastes the turkey) so I can function all morning. :smilie_xmas_116:

:woo: I was thinking of all of you yesterday as I was planning some of what we are doing. We too are doing midnight madness at the outlets tonight and then a super early breakfast followed by walmart, toys r us, and kohls at some point early in the morning. :lazy:

Peppermint Mocha here we come  :escape:
