For two weeks now my babies have had diarrhea. They have been to doctor since getting it and she doesn't seem worried, just says it will eventually go away. I just thought of this a couple days ago though. Could it be caused from their formula? They were going once a day to every other day. Now it's 6-8 times a day. Soaks into diaper except a little bit that is mucusy looking and cottage cheese looking. Amost like a breast feed babies stools only looser. They always go within an hour (usually 20) min of eating. I use the enfamil gentle ease. Does anyone know if changing the formula might help this? Or should I consult doctor before changing. They spit up A LOT all the time too. The dr said they have reflux and I have medicine to use if it gets really bad but haven't yet.

    TIA

Oh yea they just turned 4 months last week

That sounds formula related to me. Lots of signs: mucousy, loose, frequency, spit-up. I would either go with a soy or hypollargenic(Nutramigen/Alimentum).

I agree with Becky, I too would try something else for them.

Because your babies diarrhea has been going on for 2 weeks now, I think you should definitely call your babies' doctor and see what he/she has to say about the situation! when they were like 4 months old my boys had diarrhea so their doctor told me to change to an anti-diarrhea formula and to use pedilight for few days. after a month of using the anti-diarrhea formula my boys sill had diarrhea (3-4 times a day of loose stool) when I called their doctor she finally prescribed medicine and it was only then that things returned to normal. Good luck

I had similar problems with Owen until I switched him to a soy formula, which seemed to clear things up within a matter of days. I kept him on soy until he was 2, at that point I was able to give him milk without any problems.

I saw the doctor last Thursday for their 4 month well baby check up which marked the two week mark. I mentioned she asked questions and then said it would go away on it's own eventually.

My first son was on Similac Sensative. He did very well on this with no spit up or anything. The Enfamil Gentle Ease still has some lactose unlike the Sensative. Do you think if I tried this one it would help or go straight with the soy? I tried the soy when they were smaller and it made them really gassy and constipated for days so I switched back. But maybe the constipation part of it will help them at this point. Lol.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll definately look into switching to a new one now.

I would try the soy. Sometimes, even if the baby has diarrhea from a virus, it can hang on for quite awhile. Putting them on soy for a week or two will help because it allows their digestive system to recover. Dairy products can be notoriously hard to digest for a lot of people and can cause the problem to continue even if it wasn't the original cause. So, you can always try them on it for a couple of weeks & see if it clears up, then at some point, if you want, you could try switching them back to see if they still have a problem with it or if it was just a one time problem.

Unfortunately, I can be of little help when it comes to formula brands available in the US. Where I live we have "Novalac AD" as anti-diarrhea formula. When I informed my boys' doctor about their diarrhea when they were 4 months old or so, she wasn't alarmed and told me it's normal because it's hot and they are teething. but, after a month when diarrhea still returned as soon I switched to their regular formula, she told me that it has been going on for a month and prescribed an antibiotic that cleans their digestive system (I don't recall its name). Good luck
