My DD has been having terrible gas pains.

Can anyone give me suggestions on different ways to hold her to help ease the gas?

Or anything to help with her gas? She is formula fed and is on the 22 calorie Enfamil.

She is having pasty poop also but the Dr is not worried about it.

    Any suggestion are welcomed!!!

DD had the same problem from about 2 months until 5 or 6 months. The first thing that we did was to take her off of the Enfamil gentlease and that was half our battle right there, but it looks like your DD's not on that. We did gas drops (never tried gripe water) and had pretty good luck with that. We would also lie her flat on her back and "run" her legs and push them to her tummy and down. The crying would stop almost instantly and she'd usually pass gas too. She also loved being on her tummy, lying across our lap while we bounced her. Once she started having the pasty, hard poops we called the doctor and he said pear juice would help and it did. If I had it to do all over again though I probably would have just given plain water. Water has always been pure and always will be. How old is you DD? At 3 months, our DD got 3 ounces of juice in a 24 hour period. Good luck and once our DD could sit up and move a little on her own thins got so much better!

I would try the mylicon drops. We would add them to the bottles as well. I'm not sure what kind of bottles you're using, but maybe switching to something like Dr. Brown's would help. We also used to peddle the legs and gently massage the tummy. Good luck, I know it can be frustrating when they are in that kind of pain.

I gave the boys Mylicon drops right into their mouths (didn't dilute in bottle). I never could tell if they were crying from gas or just being fussy.

Our ped suggested sugar water. It's 2 oz water and 2 tsp sugar. It worked amazingly.

I was very against the idea of giving this to my babies because they certainly don't NEED sugar, but when I had a screaming in pain baby, I became a desperate woman.

Most of the time, whichever girl (we did this with ODD too when she was tiny) was taking the sugar water only drank about an ounce- sometimes even less. Sometimes all it took was a couple of sucks to soothe the belly and help the gas get out.

Ditto to the Mylicon drops. Or you can try some gripe water from a health food store. It didnt work for us, but some swear by it. Maybe its worth a formula change? Have you mentioned it to your Ped?

We also used mylicon drops, but when that wasn't enough, we talked to the dr and got something called levsin drops. It's a bit stronger gas/colic relief, and it helped more than mylicon did.

As for the poops, talked to your ped, mine recommended using dark karo syrup, I mix mine straight into the formula. I tried pear and apple juice and they didn't help mine.

With some babies it helps if you cradle them in your arms on their tummy instead of their back. So her head would still be at the crook of your elbow with her body running the length of your forearm. Then you can use your other hand to rub her back, and the slight pressure on her belly from resting on your arm can help her pass the gas.
Also (if you're not already) feed her in as upright a position as possible. The more reclined she is when feeding the more likely she is to get (worse) gas.
