Can anyone receommend a baby gate for a 72" span? We have double pocket doors to the play room/nursery that I don't want to close but can't find anything long enough. I really like the kind that roll away, but the longest I can find is 60". We bought a superyard but it won't work because the room is too small... Thanks!

We had this one. I loved it!

ETA...I did not pay that much for it though! I got it at BRU for around $90.

I have the Summer superyard that I just use as a long gate to block off our living room from the steps. It might be worth a check to see how long some superyards can be (w/out being a superyard)...I am not sure if ours is 72" but the area it's blocking off is less then that. If you have not, check out One Step Ahead, they do have a wide variety of gates. Good luck!

we have this kidco gate in an 80 inch opening. it does have to be mounted with hardware but it is very sturdy and the gate is easy to operate with one hand. we did have to get a couple of extensions to make it fit..

We used One Step Ahead when buying large gates.

If you aren't emotionally attached to your doors, you could cut them in half and have two half height doors that close. That way you can see in. We have the Kidco configure gate for our very large opening.

This made me giggle, thank you! I needed a good chuckle after my day. While I'm not emotionally attached to the doors, I can't cut them because the "play" room is also where they sleep. I found a site called extend-a-gate or something and they have a retractable 72" mesh gate that I think we're going to get. As soon as I feel like coughing up $150 for it. Until then we're using two of the superyard panels to block them in; they're just 8 months old and not too cunning yet so this might work for a while. Maybe Santa will bring them a gate.

You could try using an "L" bracket to screw one door in place (either at the top, to the frame, or at the bottom if you don't mind having a hole in the floor), then you would only have to gate the other half. Then when they outgrow the gate, unscrew the bracket and patch the hole with some wood putty...ta da! About $2.

Another option is to close the pocket door that is going to be "fixed" and run a 3" screw (ok, maybe 2) through the trim into the section of the door that is still inside the pocket...and again then just gate the other half. About $0.50 Try not to dislocate anything trying to open the door until you get used to it.

Yet another option, depending on your door/trim arrangement. See if you can find a bolt/latch to mount at the top of the door (our garden doors came with this). Then you just bolt it in place when you want the door "closed". This one might be as much as $10. although for extra security, you might want one at the bottom too.
