i just dont' know what the heck happened to my sleepers! their bedtime has always been 7:30pm and they'd usually play for a little bit and fall asleep within a half hour. now it's taking 1 1/2 - 2 hours! last night i put them to bed at 8:30, and they didnt' fall asleep till 10! and someone almost always wakes up in the morning crying, and it's usually 6am. they used to sleep till 6:30/7! they went from about 12 hours of sleep to about 8! i dont' let them nap for over 2 hours in the day.
i don't know what's going on! PLEASE HELP!!!

Woman, the same exact thing has happened here, so I'm of no help whatsoever. I took out naps and STILL they wake up really early. :gah: :gah: :gah: Very frustrating.

    How long are they napping?

they nap anywhere from 1-2 hours. after 2 hours i wake them up, cuz i'm afraid if they sleep more than that, they'll NEVER go to sleep!
ivana has been having a hard time falling asleep at nap, lately, too.
was it a phase for you? did they start going to sleep again?

If my girls nap they are up until 10:00 easy. I have taken naps out because if I don't then I am not in bed until almost 11:00 every night and I have to get up to go to work at 5 AM. So, I completely understand. Even without naps, sometimes they get their second wind at bedtime and are still up until after 9:00 (like last night). I don't understand it! However, it wasn't until this year that it started happening..so I don't know if I would take out naps or anything if I were you. I notice that your girls are just two, do they have their two-year-old molers, yet? If not, that could be the culprit.

Hmmmm...mine went through a phase a month or 2 ago. It was trouble with nightime sleep. They didn't want to go to sleep, waking up at night, etc.... Luckily, it was just a phase! I think we figured out that it was 2 year molars. Do you think that could be the case here?

I also stopped letting them nap past 3:30pm. Their bedtime is at 8pm. I don't let them take more than a 2.5 hour nap. So, with that adjustment and the fact that the teeth don't seem to be bothering them, all has gotten back to normal.

I think it is probably just a phase. Make sure they are not sleeping too late in the day and/or too long of a nap. As long as they seem well rested, I would say keep with your routine and the phase should pass.

No, not a phase here. :( I took out naps (last week) and they do go down MUCH easier (like they fall asleep in three minutes) but they are still getting up so stinkin' early. :grr: 5:30 is not a good time for wake up. <_< I guess you could try and take out the naps? I'm not sure. I hope things change for both of us!! I'm hoping that as they adjust to no naps they will lengthen the time in the morning.

I've found that for us, good naps help to encourage good night time sleep. So, a solid 1.5-2 hour nap helps my boys to sleep better at night. When they skip naps, they always wake up really early, but when they get good naps they tend to sleep later. We had a nap resistance phase for a couple of months after the boys turned two, but we still made them stay in their cribs for 1 hour at naptime (quiet time if they didn't want to sleep), and until 7:00 every morning. They talk between each other if they are awake, and now they have started to sleep better again - at naps and at night!

    Good luck!!

they have 2 sets of molars all around, so i think they got their 2 year molars already...?
also, i don't get them out of their cribs in the morning till at least 7:15, and whether they sleep or not at naptime, they stay in their cribs for 2 hours!
i dont' plan to take their naps away yet. i think all ican do is just stay persistent and hope it passes???

is it possible that it could have something to do with teh fact that they are talking more and more? the last few days they started putting 2 words together (finally). like, when they started crawling they couldnt' sleep, and when they started walking, they couldn't sleep...is this another milestone that makes them too excited and unable to sleep?

I think any developmental growth can mess with sleep. I know my DS had a night last week where he was up for 3 hours, babbling and talking up a storm. He's speech delayed, but in the midst of all his happy babbling he was using the few words he does have. I think that night was due to the improvements he's making in speech or else teething. (Although no teeth have appeared.)

I think you're right that all you can do is continue to put them down at the normal times and leave them alone to sleep. I hope it's a short phase!
