Ever since my one daugher was born (she's 20 days old) her lips have been very dry and cracked. It doesn't seem to bother her, but they look sore. She tends to purse her lips a lot and I wonder if they don't get the moisture. I don't want to put lotion on them, or anything she could ingest that could be harmful. I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions??? Or have you experienced this, and it will go away on its own??

Mine had chapped lips in the NICU and for a week or two when we came home. we stole some of those sponge thingies from the NICU and used those but you could easily take a soft tissue or towel and wet it with some water and wipe the gunk off. Also vaseline on her lips could help too.

1st, I have to ask, is she hydrated? Wetting lots of diapers? If so, maybe some pure Lanolin would work?

Yep, she's peeing and pooping lots:) Feeding really well. Thanks for the lanolin suggestion. I remember reading that the kind for sore nipples you don't have to wipe off before breastfeeding so I guess it would be safe to have on her lips.

It's likely a sucking blister. It is completely harmless, pain-free and will go away within a few weeks. It's best not to put anything on it.

that's what we use too, that stuff is like magic. i use it on chapped lips, noses, and even my heels when they get cracked (yes, i need a pedicure badly).
