Duh.. I made a whole bunch of pear and apple puree in preparation for starting the LO's on solids in a few weeks, and AFTER I finished, I read that you are supposed to sanitize the freezer trays before use. I am not sure why I didn't think of this as I am religous about sanitizing everything, but I did wash them with hot soapy water before I used them. What do you think? Is it necessary to sanitize them first?

I would say no. I never have with my food prep for the boys. Here is the thing, my blender isn't sterile and neither is the are the pots etc that I cook the food in so what is the point in sterilizing the containers. I would say that washing in hot soapy water is good enough. Thats all I do. Best of luck

I agree! But then again, I'm not a hard-core sterilizer. In the very early days, yes, but I believe that a certain amount of non-sterile...stuff...is a good thing. Their bodies are not sterile and I think it's healthy to build a tolerance to our non-sterile world. I don't serve them raw chicken bits, but I DO think a hot soapy wash is sufficient, no different than with the rest of the family.

While I sterilize my babies' bottles after each feeding, the pedi told me that once they started eating food it is no longer necessary ro sterilize bottles. I keep on sterilizing them though!

I never sterilized anything. I just wash everything in the dishwasher or in the sink.

I only sterilized bottles in the very beginning for a month or so, after that I didn't sterilize anything.

No, I have never sterilized the food containers. They go in the dishwasher or I wash them in hot water.

Phew... I thought that it seemed unreasonable, given that there's bound to be some bacteria or whatever in their food! Glad to know that it's not really a problem. The health nurse told me I could stop sanitizing bottles too, but I am still doing it.. out of habit? Paranoia? I don't know!
