We have been using breathable bumpers for at least a month with Jude because she would get arms/legs stuck in slats. Now she is pulling at them and sometimes manages to loosen them from the taught state we secured them in. Guess she is strong enough for the velcro! I feel like we are just around the corner to her pulling herself up - she tries to do this now on the couch, toys, etc. and is getting very close. I think it is probably time to remove the bumpers for a while? Thoughts? It is too bad because she is a pacifier thrower! LOL. Anyone else use these and when was it time to let them go?

I would probably just lower the crib more than you normally would. I didn't invest in breathable bumpers but wish I had just to keep the paci's in!

I bought the full crib ones washed them and then realized I had the one type of crib that they weren't compatabile with, so I tied ribbon on it every few inches and attached it like a regular bumper. Looks a little weird, but works.

I do have the crib on the lowest setting. I think my concern is would pulling them loose create a strangulation hazard or entanglement. I would think she would have to get them pretty darn loose.

I didn't care for the breathable bumpers for that very reason. They were always loose! I went back to the regular ones to keep the pacis in, and kept them on until they transitioned to beds at 22 months.

I'm sorry it's coming loose but glad to have the warning! I used the regular ones with my older kids and couldn't find a second one to use for the twins so I considered getting them the breathable ones. (hate to buy a whole crib set when I have oodles of blankets, but only one bumper). Finally found a second bumper on craigslist so I decided against the breathable ones, now I'm glad I did! ;)

We took ours off when they were big enough to start messing with them. But I never had paci kids, so I didn't have that issue. I'm not sure what the answer would be for you, is there any way to secure them so she can't get them undone?

I just thought of something else. I have heard some people weave them in and out of the crib slats to keep them more secure. A little less protection for the babies, but at least you don't have to worry about them being loose!

Danielle - I don't want to be responsible for giving breathable bumpers a bad name! LOL!!! So many on here love them as have I, but like every other expense I incur....I just want them to last longer...wahh. Sigh, my Jude is a mighty little girl - nothing could keep her content probably. :)

Okay, I was thinking of this option of weaving. I hate to be this graphic, but I fear that she could pull herself up on them and get her chin hooked if she fell...eek! This is why I was arguing with DH about the practicality of this option...he thinks I'm a little neurotic...and I am, BUT, you just have to know Jude! :) I was thinking someone might give a reason they stopped using their breathable bumpers?

 No fear Betsy, I really didn't want to spend the money on them anyways, and was happy to find a used mickey mouse bumper on craigslist for $5! Mickey for Liam and Butterflies for Rylee works for me! :good:

I have a paci-tosser too so I can't imagine not using at least something to contain them at night!
