One of my boys is pretty confidently cruising around the furniture and seems to making more strides to stand up or walk with assistance. He is also very cautious about everything so I am sure he will take his time and wait till he is very comfortable – this is the complete opposite of my other boy.

From this point when did your child start walking?

DS took his first steps around 14-months. He'd cruise take a step or two until he was holding on to something else and the process continued. He kept that up for a couple of weeks and everyday seemed to take more steps. He is now walking around everywhere and fast-walking too! DD is doing the exact same thing as your son. She is cruising and can stand from sitting but she isn't yet walking.

Jon started cruising at 8 1/2 months. Marcus started crusing at 11 months. Marcus walked on his own 3 days before their first birthday, and Jonathan walked one week later. My point is, it depends on the child :)

Both my girls started walking at 17 months, but were cruising since 12...I have learned that each child is so fiferent...some skip cruising and go straight to walking, others go from crawling to walking--it just varies. Mine cruised around for a long time...

I think the critical step to walking on their own is when they can get to a standing position without holding on to anything. From that point, both of mine walked within days. Samantha walked at 12.5 months and Mallory walked at 14 months. Both cruised for several (4 to 5) months before walking on their own.

My DS was the more cautious one, he started crawling at 10.5 months, cruising about a month later. He was taking some steps on his own at a year but was not really walking until 14 months. DD was crawling at 8 months, cruising not long after that and walking around 11 months.

From the cruising point - I'd say it took mine about 2-3 wks to 'get it down'. DD2 started standing unassisted [balancing on her own] around 11 mos [DD1 around 11.5 mos], cruising around 11.5 mos [DD1 around 12 mos] and walking steadily around 12 mos [DD1 around 12.5 mos].

It really depends on how confident they are though. Good luck and [IMG] Congratulations to your little man!

Exactly the same with my LOs. I could have written this post!

My DS runs now! DD just isnt willing to let go of me or something that supports her. She takes her time though. She crawled at 13.5 months so Im not too worried.
