The schools here offered free H1N1 shots to students, if parents signed a permission slip. Well i didnt sign it..I dont want my kids getting the vaccine, and if I did..it wouldn't be done at school.

So anyways..about 30 mins ago this is the message on Facebook..and the school called our houses:

just found out ambulances sent to Caledonia High School because of reactions to H1N1 shot. Was told elementary and middle schoolers had not received the shots and no more shots were being given out

More information was that a couple of student passed out and had trouble breathing 30 mins after the shot. I AM SO glad I choose not to let my little girls get this shot. Not at school..not without me..and maybe not ever.

CBS conducted a lengthy investigation trying to figure out just what percentage of people with flu in fact had confirmed cases of h1n1 prior to the CDC's decision to stop testing individuals. The CDC filed a Freedom of Information Request and waited two months before finally releasing their data. CBS examined the data in all 50 states. What they found, for example, was that in Georgia only 2% of reported cases were H1N1, in Alaska only 1% of reported cases were H1N1 (93% negative for flu and 5% seasonal flu) and in California only 2% of reported cases were H1N1 with 12% being other flu viruses and 86% negative for flu. So, as of late July, actual numbers of H1N1 were very low. Of course the numbers would be much higher now, but hardly anyone is being tested for h1n1 specifically because we've been told that "90% of people with flu have H1N1" and up until October rolled around "the H1N1 virus is the only flu virus currently circulating in the US" so we'll actually never know. Since everyone that shows up to the doctor's office with flulike symptoms is now categorized as having h1n1, the statistics you see on the news and the CDC website is likely not accurate.

Also, the southern hemisphere just finished their flu season. They report a relatively mild one in light of the pandemic in most areas. So please,... don't freak out. It is just the flu with a slightly different set of complications that can target a slightly different set of people than you would see with the normal flu.

The stats I used above were taken from this paper
written by Dr. Russell Blaylock. Dr. Blaylock is a retired neorosurgeon, researcher in the nuerosciences, author and avid reader (and compiler) of medical research surrounding the h1n1 pandemic (as well as other topics). Anyone that shares my opinion about this vaccine and pandemic may find it to be an interesting read.

Brandy, I don't know what happened at your school of course, but I know they routinely immunize our kids in school for several things (do they still do that in the States?) like meningitis, hepatitis, DPT, etc. Every year there are some kids who get really light-headed, short of breath, and it's not uncommon for one or two to pass out. I personally think it's just from the stress of getting a shot (especially without having Mom there, it would be really stressful for kids, I think). Anyway, it's very possible it's nothing to do with the shot itself. But still I know I would be like you & be happy I hadn't signed them up!

We got our first vaccination today. So far I'm feeling good about the decision. I have never had the girls vaccinated with the regular flu shot before. I did get one when I was pregnant.

We were planning on getting the shot...but we got H1N1 got to us first! We are just finishing up with everyone getting it in our family..some got it pretty mild while one of my twins, Sarah, got hit the hardest with the higher fever and terrible, terrible cough. She's only 9 months old so it was scary. But everyone seems to be getting better now. My question is: can you get it again or is that it? Once you've had it are you now immune?

I've heard that you can get it again and you should get the H1N1 vax even if you've already had the flu. Sorry to hear that it has gone through your family! :(
