I hate comparing but when they are only 3 weeks apart its hard not too! My nephew can point to his nose if you ask him where it is and can also stick his tongue out on demand!!! He waves bye-bye perfectly! Can dip his spoon into his baby food jar and raise his hands up to get his shirt taken off. He can also play patty-cake, peekaboo, and raise his hands up for a Yay! or O-H (for O-H-I-O:))
My sister doesn't believe me but is he a genius baby?!?!?!
My boys wave bye-bye sometimes and thats about it. They understand the patty cake game and peekaboo but make no effort to try it themselves. They dont follow any commands like stick your tongue out except for take a drink and they pick up whatever is closest and pretend to slurp from it. Forget about dipping spoons...that jar would meet the floor immediately!

Am I right that at 10 1/2 months he should NOT be doing some of these things or are my babies seriously behind?!?!?!?!?

I would say at 10.5 months he is really, really, REALLY ahead. Dont compare!! :acute:

Sounds pretty ahead to me! Mine definitely weren't doing all that at 10 months old.

Agreed! I don't see us being to that point in 1 month. Right now, the only command they follow is unspoken...they twist completely over and take off as soon as their diaper is removed! :blbl:

He does sound really ahead for his age. It's hard not to, but I would stop comparing. All babies do things at a different pace.

I don't know, every child is different, my DS1 was doing similar things at that age, whereas my DS2 didn't until later on. If it is her first, she may (like i did) spend a lot of time doing all these things with him throughout the day with her undivided attention. Don't worry though, they all develop differently and at their own pace, you might find that soon, your los will be doing things your nephew hasn't mastered yet[IMG]

Except for peekaboo (which my girls JUST started doing in the car in the last week), my girls do NONE of that. They occasionally wave (but mostly wave hi, because we haven't done a lot of waving bye-bye!) I've never tried to give them utensils (other than big wooden spoons to play with), but I seriously doubt they'd try to feed themselves (we do 99% self feeding, all finger foods)

I would say he is really advanced. Try your best not to compare them (I know it's practically impossible). In a couple of years, you probably won't be able to tell a difference in their abilities!

Yeah I'm not concerned about the boys being behind but I wanted to know if they should start doing some of this stuff. She doesn't believe me that he is a baby genius! LOL! and yes, she is a teacher and sits with him alot compared to me who sits and plays with the boys rather than teaching them stuff :FIFblush:

It does sound like he is ahead. My boys couldn't point to body parts until about 16 months. Waving was always hit or miss. I wouldn't expect most of those things until after 1 year. I was thinking...you said they are 3 weeks apart. Are you taking into account their adjusted age?? ALWAYS use adjusted age if you are going to take the leap and compare.

No technically they are 9 weeks apart but my boys have reached almost all their milestones for their actual age so I don't usually correct for it....just for their size haha!!
