Rib pain

I'm nearly 32 wks w/ fraternal (we think) twins ... estimated last week to be 3 obs 6 oz and 3 lbs 8 oz. Baby A unfortunately still breech, so looking more and more like a C-S for me (boo, hoo!)

But my real issue is this: I have TERRIBLE rib pain, almost all of the time, but worse when sitting or standing (in other words, I can *usually* find some way to lie horizontally and get some relief).

It's on my right side, where baby B is head-down, so I'm guessing that it's either baby's bottom or a foot/feet kicking?? It feels like my rib cage is being pried open, and it's REALLY painful.

Sorry to complain about something kind of trite compared to some other issues posted here ... but does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I do ice packs and an ace bandage for a couple hours in the evening, and that helps temporarily, and tylenol sometimes helps a little ... but anything else? I'm wide-open to suggestions!

And, will it ever go away? when I deliver, I hope??

    Argh! TIA for any thoughts.

I wish I had a suggestion. I'm guessing that your ribs might be actually separating?? Did you talk to your doctor? Although - for remedies i find us pregos to have the best advice. Good luck... hope someone has some ideas!

Does it come and go? Lesson and worsen? I'm worried that because it's on your right side it could be an inflammed gall bladder. It's not unusual to develop gall bladder problems in pregnancy. I did, and before I was diagnoised I had NURSES telling me it was the baby pushing on my ribs.
Call you're OB's office and tell them what you are feeling. An ultrasound can tell you you have gall stones or if your gall bladder is inflammed.

I had horrible rib pain from one of the babies' position.. .and as mean as it sounds, I would take a cold pop can and hold it against there, and the baby would shy away for a few minutes (sorry Miles, mommy loves you) and it would give me some relief. Unfortunately, they just run out of room in there and there was no permanent relief until I delivered, but the pain went away after that.

As for the c-section.. if you've got a good surgeon it can be a very quick recovery and you won't feel a thing! I am pro-ceasarian after my experience! Hang in there.. not much longer now :)

I've had terrible rib pain with all of my pregnancies. My ribs would pop out of place. IT was always the same ones, on my right side and the only cure was delivery. THey felt MUCH better after delivery. While pregnant I went to the chiropractor for temporary relief until they popped out again. It was well worth getting a releif from the pain even though it came back again and again.

good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

I have the same problem. Twin B likes to come up and visit once in awhile and parks his little behind in my rib cage. Half the time though he is down lower bugging his brother. I have no suggestions. My baby doesn't like to be bugged alot so all it takes to move him is rubbing the spot where his bum is and he will go back down to my pelvis with his brother. Other then that I don't know what to tell you! Have you tried laying on the opposite side maybe? Sometimes that works for me.

I also had TERRIBLE rib pain :nea: It was no fun at all

I did mention it to my OB at an appointment & she said it was common & to just hang in there :(

Luckily all pain went away right at delivery! :woo:

I hope you get some relief soon, it WILL get better!

Rib pain is the worst, and I have it right now too! I feel you! Once it was so bad I took my cold soda can and rested it where his little butt was and that made him move! But usually I just rub the spot and after a while he changes places. Hope you find the trick that works for you :)

I was thinking the exact same thing. I had my GB removed 12 years ago, but baby B is putting pressure on my bile duct, and my peri has determined I most likely have residual build up in there, and the pressure on it is causing my rib-related pain.

Double check and make sure it's not related to your GB just to be safe...
