What the heck happened!

Last night was the worst night ever!!!! I don't know that the heck happened. Both LO's have been sleeping 11 to 12 hours straight since we did sleep training 2 weeks ago. But last night we put them to bed at 7 and at 9 my DS started waking up. I let him cry for a bit then I went in and gave him his soother and he went back to sleep. He then woke up every 15 minutes until 11. My DH had to get up at 4 so I ended up sleeping on the floor of the babies room so that I could try and keep DS asleep. He was still waking up ever 15 minutes. Finally at 2 I took him out of his crib and he went to sleep on my chest. I was able to get him to the guest room where we slept until around 5.

Now, we did do a few things differently yesterday. We lowered the mattress in his crib. I'm not sure if he was scared because of that. We also kept them up from 3 until 7 to see if they might sleep a little longer in the morning (didn't work).
I'm also not sure if this is separation anxiety?
The longest I let him cry was about 5 minutes. Should I have let him CIO?? I just wasn’t sure if there was something wrong with him.

    Any thoughts???

It could be separation anxiety, he could also be working on a new milestone, or has he started to teethe yet? Those could all be factors into night waking. I think once you checked to see that he was alright (diaper clean, etc) then I would have let him CIO and see how he did. Sorry last night was not a good night. I hope tonight is better one for you both

I should mention that he is almost crawling. He is scooting around the house. I gave him tempra to see if it was his teeth. Didn't seem to help :(
I REALLY hope this was a one night event.

Could be teething? I would also bet the 3-7 stretch was too long and he was totally overtired and overstimulated. That is a long time to be awake for a 7 month old.

My first thought was teeth too, but if he is almost crawling, that could be it! If it happens again tonight, I would try to let him CIO for 20-30 mins after checking on him. New milestones can really screw up sleep! Hang in there and see if you can get him to cat nap around 4.

I agree with Nancy. Also, I would go back to whatever he normally sleeps during the day. You said you kept him up from 3 until 7, does he normally nap during that time? Sometimes, babies who are overtired don't sleep as well for some reason. I hope he sleeps better tonight!

    I agree.

I also have this vague recollection of a similar thing happening with our kids. I remember feeling frustrated that our evening was suddenly being disrupted and they never used to wake at that time. I think it lasted a couple weeks then ended as quickly as it started. Probably a growth type thing.

In the last week both of my LOs have had one night of increased nightwaking (although not as bad as you describe. It was more like being up every 2 hrs). I did go to them during those times and nursed them and they went back to sleep. It only lasted that one night and was better the next night. If it had happened the next night, I would have let them CIO. For us, it could have been teething, or being overtired from going to bed too late. I hope he sleeps better tonight!

Sorry you had a rough night! I also had a bad one with my "good sleeper" but it was only 1.5 hrs.
I did CIO and found it difficult to know how to handle nightwakings.
Last night she wasn't crying at first she was just talking to herself so i waited then she got hysterical so i went in because i normally don't here a peep out of her even when her sister is crying. I rocked her and gave her her lovey and she settled. Like pp's suggested to you i am thinking crawling and or seperation anxiety. The last 2 days she cries whenever i move away from her i'm hoping it's a phase she passes quickly.
