sleep sacks?

We used sleep sacks last winter and they worked great. We stopped using them because it got too hot in the summer. Now it's getting colder again and the girls are starting to wake up at night because they are cold. They aren't very good about keeping blankets on yet though. I wonder if they will tolerate going back to sleep sacks now that they are walking though. They are expensive, so I don't want to invest the money if they aren't going to work. However, I also don't want to keep being awakened at night to go straighten their blankets and cover them up. What do you think? Did anyone else stop using sleep sacks and then go back to using them without any problems?

 

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago.

I got the Early Walker ones with holes for their legs, and they are freaking huge. I'm sure they'll fit by the time the boys are getting ready to go to college, so at least I didn't waste my money....

Anyway, I'm thinking of buying these from the One Step Ahead catalog for this winter.

 

Thanks for the info, Valerie. That is exactly the kind of information I needed. Can I ask how tall your boys are? I haven't measured my girls lately, but they were 30 and 31" at their 18 month WBV (which was three months ago). I'm guessing they weigh about 21 pounds. It looks like they are in the size range for the large Halo sack (interesting that the only choices are large and extra large), but I'm nervous about ordering it if it seemed so big to you.

 

Mine stopped using bags when it got really hot, but I've started them in them again and they do fine. Grobags also come in larger sizes. Right now mine still fit in the med size halo, but we have the heavy Grobags for winter.

 

Mine still love their sleep sacks but we still used them during the Summer, so I'm not sure how hard it would be to re-introduce them. I'm personally not interested in the ones with holes for legs though... it seems it would let air go through so they wouldn't be as warm, plus I can just see them climb out of the crib too easily with those.

 

Mine used the sleeping sacks until this past spring, when they were almost 3. :good: Mine were always able to walk in them since it was just around the crib. Good luck!!

 

Mine have been able to get back in the sleep sacks after a break from them. They can also walk around in them too.

 

mine still wear sleep sacks and they are almost 2. They are in the x-large size I think. 18-24 mo. They can kind of walk in them but not well. Also, my one guy can unzip it and I have found him completely stripped naked in his crib...only twice but still. I figure it would happen regardless. There is no way a blanket would stay on them...they stand and talk to each other before then fall asleep. I'll keep them in them probably through the winter and then be done with them. I hate that they are so pricy. But we've gotten our money worth with them!

Great post btw! I wonder if the Halo ones qualify for the twins discount when you order by phone.

 

My guys are almost the exact same size; 30 & 31 inches, 19 and 20 pounds. That's why I bought the "Large" Halo Early Walker (which is the smallest size they offer); the sizing information seemed to indicate they would fit. When I put one on Jack (my tallest), the thing pooled around his legs so badly that it almost didn't matter that there were foot holes. I'm not going to send them back, but maybe I'll use them next summer. I got the comfort mesh ones instead of the fleece ones, so they'll be better in warmer weather.

Hmm, that's a good question. I ordered mine through Amazon.com with a gift certificate (they had the best price), so I didn't inquire. I don't know if One Step Ahead offers a discount.

I've bought 2 fleece blanket sleepers for the boys for winter, so I think we're set for a bit. But we like to keep the house pretty cool, so I'm probably going to order the sleep sacks through One Step Ahead for when it really gets cold here in Michigan. There is no way they'd ever keep a normal blanket on them during the night since they move around so much.

I'll report back on how they work!

 

We're using the large sleep sacks still & they work great for us. The kids can walk in them, but not really well. I'd heard that wearing sleep sacks prevents them from being able to crawl out of the crib, so that's one reason why we're using them!

 

was going to mention the sleep sacks from one step ahead as well...we will be trying those out.
