Hi, I just learned that Iam 8 weeks pregnant with twins!! So what can i expect? i have already gained 13lbs, have lots of nausea and sleep all the time. I was thinking it was due to my age, because the first ultra sound showed one baby!! Was I surprised to find out there was a hidden baby!! Any replies are welcomed!!

Welcome Merista! Boy do I know that feeling... our first ultrasound we only saw one - the next we saw two!! We were shocked to say the least. My naseau actually set in after that ultrasound and lasted until about 13 weeks. It took me a while to get used to the idea of having twins - but now I am so excited. And, for me, I don't have any other children so I don't really know any different. It makes it more fun too because my family and friends are so excited. They just love the idea ... probably because they won't have to deal with the double sleepness nights. Anyway - hope you feel better soon... enjoy!

congrats on your twins!!!! I was one of the lucky ones and didnt have nausea BUT i did gain almost 20 lbs my first trimester :gah: but now that I'm almost 32 weeks, my weight gain has slowed down drastically. I think I'm just one of the ones that gains it all in the beginning. DO you have other children? This is also my first pregnancy and I was blessed with twin boys! Keep yourself well hydrated as your symptoms are likely to increase with the increase of hormones.

I remember I could sleep for 16 hours a day in my first trimester...but your second usually brings relief-as its known as the "honeymoon" stage. But then the 3rd trimester comes with the sandman and he brings LOTS AND LOTS of dust (at least in my case) :lazy:

Hope your nausea lets up soon and your pregnancy continues to go well!!! Congratulations again and keep us posted!

Hi, Congrats on your twins..welcome to TS.. I was shocked myself to hear I am having twins at 8 weeks as it is not in family..I already have a daughter with whom I had no nausea..but this one threw me off right from day 1..I was either puking or sleeping for first 3 months and lost 8lbs..but now doing a lot better and started putting on some weight..hope it gets better soon for you too..

And about seeing 1 baby in first scan and 2 in the next, my friend's twin went undetected until her big scan on 20 weeks..ofcourse she had her initial scan at 7 weeks and the next one was at 20 weeks since they thought she has a singleton..talk abt shock..lol..

Welcome to Twinstuff, and Congrats on your twins! As with most of the PP I was nauseous and tired the first trimester as well, actually the tiredness only wore off for a few weeks during the second and came back on just as strong, I'm not quite in my third trimester yet, but I hope the exhaustion doesn't get worse.. :) I have a son who just turned 2, so I can't nap and sleep as much as I'd like, but I do nap when he does!

Drink lots of water and keep hydrated, also, eat what you can and what doesn't make you sick! Rest all you can!

    HH9M to you!

Congratulations on your twin pregnancy and Welcome to TS!! :woo: Every twin pregnancy is different, so its hard to say what to expect because that can vary significantly from person to person. However, if anything should arise, there are plenty of women on here that can help you!!

WELCOME!! I will be 8 weeks tomorrow. Our first u/s showed 2 sacs and one baby with the sacs measuring 2 days apart at 5w6d and 5w4d. Since 5w4d is too early to see babies we're pretty sure we'll see the second twin today!!

When are you "due" we can be due date buddies :D I've vomited off and on. I'm on zofran because I had very severe hg with my last pregnancy and we were concerned it would happen again. and I'm lazy lazy lazy! I just lay around all day. I take naps with my dd who just turned 2, and I go to bed early. around 9. :) congrats on your twins!!

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll pick up a lot of helpful information on this site (about gear, planning, symptoms, etc.). We also joined our local parents of multiples group, which includes a listserv and in-person meetings. It has been very informative. Also check with your insurance company about maternity programs; obviously plans differ but mine assigned me a fantastic nurse case manager since we're considered high risk due to the twin gestation.

Some hospitals have classes for expectant parents of multiples, or can send you information on local resources. Check the hosptial website for more info.

I'd also recommend trying to find an OB/GYN who specializes in multiples. I have one and it's reassuring. My co-worker had twins; she and I have been comparing notes and she wishes she'd had an OB who specialized in multiples.

    Hope this helps! Congratulations, again.

P.S. My nausea and extreme fatigue subsided after my first trimester. I'm only 16.5 weeks, but feeling a lot better.

Hello everyone! Just thought I would share my own story...well, what I have so far!
My husband is a Marine and we have been trying for a couple of years to get pregnant. I found out after a year that I am hypothyroid and have PCOS. Between that and his deployments to Iraq it seemed like adoption was going to be our only option. A litle over a month after he came back from his last deployment we found out we were pregnant! I cried and freaked out when I saw the double pink line...finally! I didn't believe it was true, even after my regular doctor confirmed my HCG levels were rising. I kept thinking something was wrong and I worried my self to death until I went in for my 6 week U/S. I told the doctor that I needed a slap to make me quit worrying and she did...twice! I was floored to see I was pregnant with twins! I mean, I knew it was a possibility with the fertility drugs but wow!
I go back in for weekly U/S for a while before they switch me to a regular OB..which will be nice since I have to drive 1 1/2 hours to the specialist right now. The scan last week showed two strong heartbeats, one at 106 bpm and one at 109 bpm. Hearing their heartbeats was when it finally sunk in...and of course I started blubbering like a baby! I am seven weeks right now.
Here is the funny part though...I was on my 6th round of clomid and third IUI, but according to the growth age of one of the babies, he/she was conceived two days BEFORE our IUI...so techinically we were pregnant when we went to to get pregnant! That cracks me up!

While I am thrilled to finally be starting a family (no other kiddos here) I am apprehensive about starting with two. I see my friends boys who are almost two and they are little terrors! I don't want to be like that. Also, I am wondering if I am a weirdo or something but no one mentioned how much pregnancy hurts! I have a high tolerance for pain, but I always get these stomach and back cramps. My doc says thats just stretching but UGH! I thought the uncomfortable feelings didn't start until later? And I am already having to give up my regular jeans..they are way too uncomfortable! so far the last few days have brought almost constant nausea but no vomiting yet. Think that will last? (hehe)

Hi, I found out 2 weeks ago at my nuchal scan that we're having twins!!!
Sooooooo many questions, fears and nerves!
DH and I have 8yr old ds and 4yr old dd already, and were oringinally planning on this being a third and final bub. Although hugely shocked at first, am starting to fall in love with the idea of having my two little babies! :youcandoit:

Hi. Congratulations on your twins! I just wanted to say we to thought we were ready for one more. We have a 3 year old and an 18 month old.. both boys. We were absolutely shocked to learn that there are two of them in there! Pretty overwhelming at first but you for sure do fall in love with the idea of having twins quickly. It sounds like we are due around the same time. Our little ones are due April 28th. Just wondering when your due date is?

Hi, I'm from a country town in QLD.

Is it just me or is everyone's fav question when they find out you've got twins is,"Ohhhhhh is there twins in the family?"

    Hi!
Sooooooo many questions, its hard to know where to start! I'm due on 23rd April, but it makes me nervous to even say that!? I will be having a c/s and would have been having one anyway.

My main fear is really making to at least April and the health side of having twins are my main concerns and what is really worrying me. Do others feel this way? I feel like I'm turning into this obsessive, anxiety ridden panicked person. Is this what others have gone through?

    Congrats and Welcome...

My advice is to soak up as much info. as you can. There is plenty on here and books out there to read.

Also...try to get your husband involved as much as possible. Even get him on here...we are at a shortage of guys on here.

    And by all means...you have a question...ask!!!

I am mostly in the NICU threads, but I come to scope out what's new on here every so often.

You want a man's point of view...I can give that also.

I see that you made it to 38 weeks! That is so good to know as it seems like all I hear is that twins are born far too early and can end up with ongoing issues. Of Course I know thats not always the case, but it is still really scary to think about! Did/Do you breastfeed?

Same here. She was a bit freaked out at first, but I was SO excited.

I read her book on "What to expect when expecting" in one night. I also bought the daddy book, but didn't care for it much. Seemed to be written for an era 30 years ago.

They said to try and help out around the house, don't be afraid to change a diaper, etc. I do most of the housework and cooking anyways, so it threw me off a bit. I also did our entire registry.

That's so cool he is excited. There is also a book on having twins that was pretty good and when our kids were born super early, I read the preemie book my first few days back from Iraq. Lots of good info.

    TMI alert:

I hope this question doesn't seem silly but does expecting twins affect sexlives? As in, has anyone's doctors' advised against sex, especially against women having orgasms?

If so, would this only be if there are signs of preterm delivery or just in general?

I don't know whether to be worried or not?!

    HellO!

I just found out I am in the same boat! We went yesterday to our 7 week transvag to see a heartbeat, and the doc said to hold on a sec, and found a second! I thought my husband was going to faint. I just kept laughing.

Today I am alternating between panic (what will we do with two?!) to absolute bliss (oh my goodness! instant family!!!).

And as someone really new to this board, I am thrilled that there is a smiley face icon for sleep/vomit. Who knew?!

At 20 weeks, my OB said no more sex. He didn't actually say no orgasms (which I had a few in my sleep) - and I seemed to be okay afterwards. But I miss having sex!
