I keep hearing/reading that often your 2nd labor will be shorter than your first.
    Is this true?
How is that theory if the first pregnancy was twins?

My first labor, from the time the doc broke my water(s) until the last baby was delivered was 5 hours. I'm wondering how this one will go. What was your experience?

With my first, they broke my water broke, from then to the time I had my son it was 4.5 hours. With my twins, They broke my water and a halfhour later I was PUSHING!!... Makes me worried about this one, on the way!! ( especailly since Daddy is deployed....) Good luck!! :) :)

My first was a singleton...I was in the hospital about 8 hours before she was born.

My second was the twins. After the pitocin was started I was in hard labor for 40 minutes before Baby A was born!

If we have another baby I'll make sure to deliver at a hospital really close to my home!

My 2nd labor was about 6 hours shorter than the first. My second labor was my biggest baby and by far my easiest vaginal birth.

With all 3 of my vaginal deliveries I went in to labor about 10pm - arrived at hospital early the next morning. ds#1 was born at 8:16pm, ds#2 at 2:02pm and ds#3 at 2:33pm .

I was induced for my 1st pregnancy (singleton) and my 2nd (twins). 1st labor was 19.5 hrs. and 2nd labor was 6 hrs. I also needed much more induction drugs for the 1st pregnancy (2 doses of gel and pitocin) and with the 2nd I only needed one dose of gel and was in labor.

For my 1st preg, labor was spontanious and even with pitocin, it was 16 hrs...
Second preg, labor was also spontanious, labor (ONLY!!! :rotflmbo: ) 12 hours.
    Third - twins - c-section at 38 weeks.

I voted 'no' but I'm sort of an exception. My first labor was a vaginal delivery, not induced, but eventually augmented with pitocin after I got an epidural. It was around 15 hours. My second pregnancy was a c/s with the twins. My third pregnancy was a vbac labor, all natural, no augmentation. That labor lasted, I kid you not, three days. I slept maybe 4 hours here and there in those hours. The doula who was working with me did tell me previously that in her experience vbac labor do tend to go long, perhaps because the body just somehow knows it needs to take it slow and easy. I'm thinking that my fourth pregnancy, third labor has got to be better than 3 days!!

1st: Induced at about 6pm due to pre-e. On Mag-sulfate, pitocin, and eventually an epi. Delivered the boys at 6:08 and 6:59 pm the following evening...so, just about 24 hours. (twin A forceps, twin B vacuum)

2nd: Induced at about 9am. No pitocin needed. Eventually received an epi at about 9:30pm. Delivered her at 5:05am the following day...so, just about 20 hours. I was in the "pushing" stage for 4 hours while apparently 1 hour is normal for a non-first-time-around delivery. She was forceps delivery. She was gigantic.

I'm praying and praying and praying that #3 is much, much shorter.

Yes, but they weren't all shorter and shorter. The first was the longest though. About 56 hours of labor, about 22 of which were hard labor (but I did have an epidural finally after 15). 2nd was 4 hours, 3rd was 6. I was induced w/ my twins, so that was longer... about 12 hours for Sydney and another hour for Sabrina. I was also induced w/ Spencer, and it was about 10 hours.

DS was 28 hours of labor and vaginal delivery. Girls were 27 hours of labor...and a c-section. Blah.

With the twins (first labor) I was in labor for 17 hours and pushed for 2 hours. With Ty (second labor) I was in labor for 3.5 hours and pushed for 5-10 min.

Well, I labored at home all night, from about 10pm on. Didn't go to the hospital until after 9am the next morning. And I was only at 3cm, so they didn't really think my contractions were as hard as I said, until they put a monitor on me. And then they didn't want the epidural to stop labor because I still wasn't dilating. So they gave me pitocin to jumpstart things (holy guacamole, that's nasty stuff), and once I got to 4 they let me have the epi. By that point I was totally exhausted (having not slept all night), and fell promptly asleep for a few hours. When I woke up, the pitocin and epidural had done their jobs and I was at like 8cm. It was still awhile until she was born and it was such a heavy epidural that I couldn't feel a dang thing, so pushing was difficult. I pushed for a couple of hours.

I was totally unprepared for the pain of labor. My mom and grandmother both had labors that were 90 minutes to a couple hours long and didn't hurt as much as monthly period cramps. My mother only went to the hospital with me because her water broke. She had no idea she was in labor, her back just ached. The nurse felt her stomach, told her she was in labor and called for a gurney. Then I started to come (feet first), and they rushed her down the hall, lifting us both onto the delivery bed (I was already born to my hips). I figured it would be the same way for me, because I'm so like her in other ways. No such luck. So frankly, I was just proud of myself for making it through, by whatever means.
