What do you suggest for our first crafts? Are there any good first crayons/markers? I saw the Tadoodles somewhere and wondered if they were good to start with. We're going to get the Little Tykes picnic table that was recommended on another topic here and are anxious to attempt some coloring projects.

    Thanks!

We have the tadoodles and they are easier to hold (especially for my Hannah who has a little more trouble!) but they still want to eat them, lol.

Stickers are fun. I recently tried a project where the kids and I decorated a gift bag with a bunch of stickers and it was so fun. They totally got into it. It is a bit of a pain that stickers are kind of one and done, but I'm going to see if I can find them in bulk or something so it's not such an expensive habit. Also, we have an aquadoodle mat taped up to the wall. Every once in a while they'll bring me the pens to fill up and they'll draw for about 12 seconds. Then they like to drink the water through the pens. I imagine the drawing part will get more interesting, eventually. Taping it to the wall helps decrease set up time and lets them decide when they want to play with it, though.

    Have fun!

We started out with Tadoodles and highly recommend them, my kids  them! I'd get them a big piece of paper and let them have at it. Good luck!

My girls really like stickers, crayons. We just discovered the books with a picture that you just wet a painbrush and the picture comes to life. Out of everything it is definitely stickers that they like the best.

I would love to start my two. Can you recommend a finger paint and recipe? What type of paper do you use? Thank you!

I'm planning a toddler Halloween party and was having the THE HARDEST time trying to figure out a craft project for them. I plan to cover a coffee table w/an orange table cloth and set out blackline copies of basic jack o lanterns, crayons, etc but really wanted something that they could take home and be proud of! So, thanks to this thread, I'm going to hit up the dollar store for lots of stickers and plain paper bags with handles and they're going to make a spooky bag that they COULD take trick or treating or just stash whatever stuff toddlers would like to keep in a paper bag! AWESOME!! THANKS@!!

I've also been thinking about this myself lately ^_^

Nancy - I looked up the tadoodles online and about 80% of the consumers say they are messy and leak a lot. What was your experience like?

I'm looking for Large Crayons for mine to start with.. and maybe baby-safe finger paints as well!

For finger paint I have just mixed flour and water and food coloring!

I also tried fingerpaints, crayons, stickers..., but my boys always put everything into their mouths. So if I put a pacifier into their mouths they had fun for three minutes, then discovered that they can put both (pacifier and crayon) into their mouths... So I occasionally try some cafts, but I think they´re just too young to really honestly do crafting. So just try, and try, and try and eventually they´ll be ready to draw.

For another idea-to maybe file away for another year-you could have the kids paint their own pumpkins! Probably the mini ones at this age-that might be a good idea! My boys bday is October 18th, so that's what we are going to do at some point in the future. And-it also acts like a goody bag!
