DH discovered that we could watch free "instant" movies from Netflix on the computer, so he was browsing among the kids shows, and one of the girls pointed to Caillou (which we had never heard of) and said "That one!" That was a few months ago, and I think they've watched Caillou every day since then. They go around the house pretending to be Caillou and Rosie, and they talk constantly about what Caillou is up to (getting lost in the museum, going tobogganing, pretending to be a firefighter...). It seems fairly wholesome from the few minutes that I catch here and there (I know, bad mommy, not really knowing what my kids are watching  ), and it's a godsend for me because they will sit and watch it for an hour and a half! (That's the only TV we watch all day -- though they would watch more Caillou if I let them.) Anyone else have Caillou fanatics in the house?
I remember a thread a while back about Cailou being annoying and always whining. Then months later, my boys started to watch it. And they LOVED it. It was for many months that it was their favorite. oNw they have moved on to other shows but they do still like it. I dont mind it at all.
Haven't seen Calliou, but thanks for the tip on the Netflix instant shows! I have noticed that there's a lot more TV shows on there, but I didn't think to look for children's programming.
Oh yeah, they have loads of Dora, among other things. We can barely drag the kids away from DH's computer anymore. It's kind of nice because they're in the office, farther away from the kitchen, and they don't holler for me as much while I'm trying to make dinner.
mine have kinda moved past Caillou - do they have Backyardigans? I may have to purchase Netflix if that's the case!
Ellie loves Caillou! She used to watch it so often we've been calling her "Rosie" for the last year or so: her middle name is Rose. We always have a few episodes on the DVR and that's what she always asks to watch. On the positive side of Caillou, that's how Annie learned to tie her shoes. We watched that particular episode so many times she just followed the directions Caillou's father gave him!
Nadia used to love it when she was younger, but Caillou grates on my DH so much that he's forbid me from ever putting it on for K&K, LOL. Caillou's parents do make me laugh. I would love to meet parents like that in real life. They're like the Martha Stewart of parenting. I find him about as annoying as Dora, and we watch Dora every. single. day.
My boys absolutely love Caillou and would watch it all day if they could! I can see where some people might find him a little whiney, especially in some of the earlier shows, but I do think the show teaches some good lessons such as sharing, being creative/imaginative and plus it's just nice to see a happy family (although it is a little over the top at times!) My goal now is just to find some episodes that we haven't seen a 100 times! Lately we have been renting Caillou movies from Netflix which has been good.
My boys, Jack especially, love Caillou. I don't think it's that bad - the stories are kind of cute, educational, and wholesome. Becca is right on with the comment about his parents. If only I were half as perfect a parent as they are....
I had never heard of Caillou until we got direct tv. And now my kids are crazy about him. They also pretend to be Rosie and Caillou and talk about them and the show all the time. Penny
Leah loves Calliou. We are on a Calliou marathon in this house. I TIVO it off PBS. Leah watches him everyday. Yes, they have tons of kids shows and movies. That is only what we order from Netflix. The "watch instantly" button is great. I use it when we travel. I do not think that the Backyardigans can be "watched instantly."
My kids LOVE Caillou and I avoid it as much as possible!! He is whiney and a little bratty and then he learns the error of his ways....I think the message is lost a lot! I do think it's harmless, but I don't like it! LOVE some of the others though
Alden: Yep -- we have two HUGE Caillou fans at our house. DS pretends to be Caillou and DD pretends to be Rosie (she really mimics her voice and way of talking like a baby, too, which totally bugs me.) I think it's just fine. For whatever reason, this program just really appeals to them right now.... I'm sure the Caillou phase (like all the other phases) will pass. Much peace, Meg == mom to 3.5 year old boy/girl twins
My kids love Caillou and would watch all the time, but I limit their time (maybe one episode a week). My sons starts whining like Caillou and it drives me crazy. I will agree there are some good lessons, but the whining is too much.
Mine LOVE it TOO!!!!!!!!!! Just curious though, why does Rosie, who is two, have a full head of hair and Caillou, who is four, have none??? Plus, both mommy and daddy have full heads of hair?????
MAJOR caillou lovers here. major. like every night before bed. it's been like this at least for 4 or 5 months. if they're on my nerves, they get to watch caillou so i can get a break...doesn't really bother me much at all, but i have always said caillou's mom is my idol--rocks in your bed? let's find a better spot for them. broke my favorite cup? oh no worries...PSHAW! Glad i'm not the only one who isn't just like her!! LOL agggh you beat me to it that's always been my question, too LOL
