Was your 2yo willing to wear a costume?

I'm trying to figure out what to do for the kids for halloween costumes. DH and I have brainstormed some things that we like and feel are doable (being short on time and ability). So I'm considering those options and they mostly include my DS wearing something that I am not sure he will tolerate for long if at all. DD will probably tolerate most anything.

So what were your experiences around this age with costumes and willingness (or not) to wear them? This could have a huge impact on what I decide to do.

    Thank you!

My kids have worn costumes every year. There has sometimes been a struggle to get them on, but they will usually leave them on once they are in them. (Unless there is some kind of head thing, they sometimes take them off).

Last year we weren't going to do Halloween since the girls got scared so easily, but last minute there daycare providor told me she was taking her kids & mine trick or treating if I didn't mind at a strip mall down the street, and there dad was off work due to a broken wrist, so we decided they would go (and he would too). I found these cute little "bee" costumes, they were 9.99 at the Halloween store, and the girls LOVED them. They just had a yellow sparkly skirt (more like tutu), a wand with a bee print, wings, & antenna's. We ended up just putting black leggings & shirt underneath. It was perfect, since it wasn't something that scared them, didn't cost us much, and they had a great time!

My mom bought the girls bee costumes and so once a week or so I've been putting the costumes on them so they can get used to it. So far they hate it and scream until I take it off so we'll see if they'll actually wear them. I think it's the wings that bug them.

I got them some cute skeleton pajamas on sale at Gymboree, so if they won't wear the bee costumes they'll be skeletons.

My twins bday is in July so their FIRST Halloween, they were only 3 months, and they did not go out. Their second Halloween they were 15 months, and at the last minute their dad got them a duck and penguin costumes. Just a soft stuffed body, with slipper feet and a hat with the beak on it. They liked them fine, didnt have any issues getting them on or keeping them on. (except the hats kept falling off)
Last year they were 27 months and they dressed up as spiderman, and a princess and loved it.

    HTH.

Mine did and loved it! At that age, they were Elmo (full, fury body suit with hood) and Abby Caddabby.

Mine wore a costume last year, so I can't imagine that they won't this year...at least I am hoping!! They were pirates last year. The only thing they didn't leave on for long were the hats...BUT they left them on long enough for most people to see them at our halloween party.

I've had the best luck with costumes that are soft, and not too fussy. At age 2, my older DD was a leopard (or maybe cheetah, not sure which, LOL) -- and it was just a soft hoodie and pair of pants. Look:

    Leopard

And, at 3, she wore the puffy pumpkin costume from Pottery Barn Kids. Because she just had a shirt and pants on underneath, it wasn't too bad. She didn't mind the little hat, either:

    Pumpkin

Anyhow, we're using those costumes again this year -- Kevan will be the leopard, and Karina will be the pumpkin. I think they'll be fine in them, although I doubt Karina will keep the hat on.

Incidentally, my older DD didn't protest costumes in general, and when she was 21 months, she wore this ladybug costume without any fuss. But, it was just a little bodysuit with a skirt attached:

    Ladybug

Karina wore that one last year, but she wouldn't keep the headband in. Kevan was a monkey from Old Navy, and that didn't go over very well -- it was kind of big and overwhelming.

My two wore theirs last year and loved it! My son didn't want to keep the hood part of the batman costume on but other then that they had fun (and my dd got VERY into being a cat  She kept meowing at people. )

At that age, mine wore a sweat suit style costume with a hood. They were Mickey & Minnie. The costumes were super cute and comfy. They loved them!

I bought these adorable soft dalmation puppy costumes and my 22 month old twins scream and refuse to put them on. They were happy in their costumes last year at 10 months. My older son loved his tiger costume when he was 2 1/2. So I guess it just depends on the child as well as the age.

L&M have dressed up every year. Last year they wouldn't wear anything on their heads and they still are afraid of masks, but everything else they have worn

Our boys get really annoyed with animal/character costumes that have heads that they can't see. So, we are going to dress them as a firefighter and a doctor. I think that will work out better than the dinosaur idea that Jacob had because I know he'd jsut never wear the costume.

    Good luck!

Mine wore hooded ones last year with no trouble (at 15 mos). I was surprised at how well they did. This year, they also have hooded costumes (they're dinosaurs) & I doubt we'll have any fuss. They LOVE wearing their hoods up (in fact, they usually yell at me if I tell them it's not cold enough for hoods), so I'm sure they'll LOVE their dino spines!

Mine were fairies when they were two and they had wings and the whole bit. I was worried that they wouldn't wear the wings or the head bands, but they did really well and loved the outfits.

My girls wore a shark costume for years 1 & 2 and they loved it! They are going to be so pissed when they found out I sold them because they didn't fit anymore.

Mine both had a fit for the full body elmo costumes last year - I bought them and I swear for the next 6 months they wanted to wear them EVERYWHERE! (it was until we moved actually - since we have been in the new house they havn't asked about them!) They would not wear the hood part, they just looked like red, furry Addison and Ava! LOL!

This year, I havn't decided what they will be - probably some kind of animal - maybe elephants or pigs - they LOVE the elephants at the zoo and they LOVE the movie Babe! (and Charlotte's Web!)
