Hi Ladies, Advice needed please! The girls and i are invited to a playgroup tommorow with 4 of there baby cousins  I'm stressing over what to do about there nap schedule?! They are usually up at 6.30 and nap at 8.30 for 2hours then again at 12.30 (give or take half hour either way) So we are getting picked up at 9.30am! I could wake them up at 5am back down for nap 1 at 7 and wake them at 8.30 to be ready for 9.30? Obviously this throws the whole day off so nap 2 will be taken more or less as soon as they get home as i imagine it will be for a few hours. Just not sure they could go the whole morning without some kind of nap? Also Ruby got an ear infection a week since and i think the penicillon has cleared it up but she is still quite grisly with her teething. She keeps scrunching her nose up as if it is irritating her? I'm not sure what the problem is and the dr never checked her nose last week so she has an appointment to see a dr about it on Monday. So would you still take her to a playgroup?? Any thoughts please? Much appreciated!
Hi Liz! I would go ahead and take the girls, and not worry about adjusting their morning wake up time. At least they will get their usual night's sleep and so they miss a nap and the rest of the day is a bit wonky... you'll still have a good time! I'd worry more about waking them early - they may be even more cranky for lack of sleep and there's no guarantee that they'll take an earlier nap. About the scrunchy nose thing - yet again, parallel lives! My "Ruby" is scrunching her nose ALL THE TIME and until I saw your post it didn't even occur to me that it could be because of teething but now it makes perfect sense! I wouldn't worry about it. Have FUN at the playgroup and good for you for getting the girls out!!!
I agree with the PP, don't wake them early. Maybe put them in their carseats (if it is a carrier) to nap so they don't wake? Also, penicillin never helped my older son's ear infections, it always took more than one course of antibiotics. She could still have the infection. As long as she doesn't have a fever, you should be safe to take her to playgroup.
If this is something you want to do and not something you feel like you have to do, then go! I think it sounds like a lot of fun! I am usually pretty strict with our schedule and I don't like to mess it up but every now and then you just have to. Do they have to pick you up?? If not, I would drive separate. That way if they got too fussy you could leave. If I were you I would also keep their wake up time the same and put them down for the first nap like normal, maybe 30 minutes early so they had about 1 hour to nap. I would have them ready to go as much as I could before putting them down for their nap. I would get ready while they napped and then I would wake them up with enough time to put new diapers on and feed them. Then I would load up and go! I have found that if we are up and about and they can play they are usually able to stay up between naps longer. For instance, we took them to a STL Cardinals baseball game last weekend and they made it through the entire game awake and happy!! I was shocked and surprised! I thought we would only make it to the 3rd inning at most! (Just sharing that to give you some hope!) I hope you have a lot of fun, if you go! Try not to stress much. I know that is much easier said than done! Let us know how it goes if you do go!
I agree you should go if you think you and the kids will enjoy it. I wouldn't wake them up early, I would put them to sleep so they at least get some sleep before you go. The rest will sort it self out throughout the day. If it is more of a pain to disrupt the schedule then perhaps you could reschedule the play date for a time when your kids are awake. Or at least let this be known for the next play date. Hope you have fun
I tend to stress about these things too because I don't want my LOs to miss their naps. Could you drive separately after they wake from their 1st nap? I don't think I would wake them up early. Like PPs said, I would put them down for their first nap maybe a little bit earlier than normal if you can. Could you feed them at the playgroup so they could nap a little bit longer? That could be a hassle, though. I hope it goes well and that you all have fun!
Hey Stacy thanx! Oh yes i definately want to go, i'm too excited about meeting my great nephew for the very first time, he is just 2weeks old! I just always worry when there naps get thrown off. I suggested waking them early as i can almost guarantee that 2 hrs from when wake they will be ready for a nap. If i let them sleep in to there normal wake up time they will be due a nap when we are about to leave so they wouldn't get one until after which is likely to be around 12. Don't you think going from 6.30 while 12.30 is just far too long to go with out sleep?? I hear what your saying i absolutely Hate to wake them early as they do get cranky but it feels catch 22? The girls will only nap in carseats if we're driving I'm afraid. Thanx for info about ear infections, maybe that is still bugging her? Poor baby, she doesn't have a fever but is very whiny, which could be down to sleep deprivation also she is awake alot through the night. Thanx for posting! Yeah i want to go i am just a stress head lol Unfortunately i don't drive so i am relying on my sister to pick us up. But i like your thinking, they could go down for the nap half hr early and i could have them ready to go and then wake them half hour before we are due to be picked up. They will only of had an hour but at least it is something and they can catch the rest of there sleep up in the afternoon. Some sleep has to be better than none at all right? The girls are like your lo's if we are out n about they can go longer between feeds and naps but we ususally do our trips out in the afternoon. Sounds like you had alot of fun at the game!! I hope tommorow goes as smoothly as your day did. Thanx you've been a great help!! Thanx for posting, i'm going to do that yes. I'll put them down a little earlier and wake hem up in time to leave. The playgroup starts at 9.15 so we will be late as it is, it is organised by a group so we can't arrange another time. I will definately suggest our next playdate be held in the afternoon in future, much better for my schedule. Hey Amber glad it is not just me, i do my own head in sometimes but i know how ugly things can get when the schedule is disrupted but this is a very special occasion so i just want to do things as best i can. Like i said to a pp i don't drive but seriously need to learn!! I will just feed them there favourite before we go, they demolish it in minutes lol they aren't the best public eaters just yet, they belong in the zoo!
Do your carseat strap into your stroller? What if you put them in there and stroll them around until they fall asleep this way you could just plop them in the car sleeping with a blanket over it to ease the transition. Don't know if that would work, but if you have kids that easily fall asleep in a carseat to motion it may.
Great idea but no i don't, they would of done this in my old buggy but not this one. No worries though, i think i'm set, they go down half hour earlier than normal and get an hour or so before we go. Thanx everyone as always you'v been fab! :grouphug:
