We currently use 2 Britax marathon seats for our twins. With another baby on the way....I'm wondering if I can squeeze one more seat in the back without resorting to buying a new car. Does anyone have any recommendations for carseats that would fit 3 across in a standard sized car? I don't think I'll be able to squeeze anything between the Britaxs - -those things are huge! New seats would be much cheaper than a new car.

  2. I'm in the same predicament. My twins will be 2.5 years old when my newborn arrives in March. I did some research, and discovered that the Sunshine Kids Radian 65 carseats are narrow enough that we can fit two in the back seat of our Jeep, plus put our Graco bucket seat for the baby in the middle. They measure about 17 inches across, and fit forward facing children up to 65 pounds.

We went to a kids' store called Echildren in our city, and they were kind enough to let us borrow two seats and take them out to the parkig lot to see if they fit in our Jeep, along with the bucket seat we already had, before we had to buy them. This might be an option for you. Good luck!

PS Here's the Sunshine Kids website.

Ditto here. I was able to fit 2 Graco + 1 Marathon and 2 Marathons + 1 Radian. However, I had a pretty wide car (Volvo XC90). Otherwise you could sell one of the Marathons (they do quite well), get 2 Radians and put the baby in the Marathon when (s)he's out of the bucket ... would be cheaper than buying a new car. You can't get narrower than Radians ... I have the 65 since I figured she'll outgrew the height limit way before she reads 80lbs, so no reason to get the 80lbs one although it looks more comfortable.

Our twins are 2.5, they were 18 months and still rear-facing when my little one was born. We had the Graco Snugride for the baby, and then we had The CosCo Scenara convertible and the Graco Comfort Sport for the girls. They all fit rear-facing. We had the baby in the middle and the girls on either side..

Then I got the TRUFIT for my son, so then I had that and the two other convertible's, all still rear-facing, across the back of my truck, which is a Ford Explorer. I wanted so bad to get TRUFIT's for the girls, but that is a WIDE seat, and I knew 3 of them would not fit across the back seat, though now that the girls are forward facing, we put them in the 3rd row a lot so the TRUFIT's would fit.

Anyways, that's how we fit 3 carseats across our backseat. The only PIA is when all the seats are together, it's really hard for me (all of 5' tall) to get the baby in the middle and buckled in....

Great info...thanks! I've just started looking into the radians - wonder if I can squeeze it between the 2 Britax marathons. If I can shove them over a little bit to make more room - it might be doable.

I believe that the Marathon and the Radian puzzle quiet well together when they are all facing the same direction. The radian is a very low profile seat and the marathon has that base that lifts the sides of the seat over the radian. The people at www.car-seat.org have wonderful experience and advice about this sort of thing, if you have more questions that haven't been answered here.
