Do you use plates and bowls in their high chair?

The transitioning out of high chair thread got me thinking maybe we should be heading in that direction soon. Though mine are still content in their high chairs and don't really throw food on the floor much anymore. But one thing we're bad about is using plates and bowls. Just recently they're getting better when I give them a bowl of yogurt or something to practice with a spoon. But for the most part if I give a bowl with a snack or a plate of food, it gets dumped and thrown. Did yours use them consistently (and correctly) before you moved them up to the table?

I haven't moved my girls to a table yet (not sure when I am *supposed* to do that?) but we do use plates & bowls & spoons.
I use plates every meal, and use spoons/bowls at least once a day. They are slowly getting the hang of it :good:
I look forward to seeing what others are doing!

Still no plate and bowls here... they end up on the floor.

It's funny because when they were in high chairs or the booster with the trays and I used plates or bowls, they would throw them on the floor. The first time I sat them at the table with a plate, they ate off of it and there was no throwing. I have yet to try bowls at the table but I know I should.

My two will eat from bowls until they're done and then they always end up on the floor. So does all the unwanted food unfortunately. I've been reminding them if they don't want it to push it to the side and my daughter seems to understand that. I let them sit at the table for snacks and my son does ok but my daughter will not sit for more than a minute so I know we're not ready to transition for a while. That's funny, my kids don't throw the plate on the floor when eating from the table either :) I wonder if it's an old habit with the high chairs. I don't think I will consider transitioning until I have to, like when they won't tolerate the high chair, and they have the attention span to sit at a table through a meal.

We were half and half before the move. Sometimes used plates and sometimes right on their trays. They are getting better with the plates (and we are getting better about using them) now that they are eating at the table. It seems somehow wrong to put food directly on the table when it didn't on the highchair? I'm goofy, but it reminds me to use them.

We do plates/bowls in their highchairs or at the table. Sometimes we have to take the booster off the chairs, and when we do that, it takes awhile to get them back on! Oops! So lately they've been using the highchairs. But yes-plates and bowls. Even if it's a sandwich. Sometimes if it's just fruit, I'll just cut it up and put it on the tray. The only time they would throw their plates/bowls was when they were done eating. I think that was a phase-and it wasn't too long. Now? They take their utensils and put them on their plate/bowl and hand it to us and say, "Done!" We never taught them that-so there is hope for people whose kids throw their plates, etc!

My girls just turned one, but the youngest is able to understand not throwing her plate on the floor and the oldest isn't . We try to use them at least once a day and I usually just hold onto my oldest daughter's plate so it doesn't end up on the floor. I've tried the suction cup plates, but they don't seem to work.

So the last two days I went cold turkey. Pulled the highchairs (no trays) up to the table and gave them plates and utensils. They did great! No real issues and they behaved great. I like that it frees up more space in the kitchen now. This seems like another big milestone they passed. They are growing up so fast!

same here - in high chairs, pretty much everything landed on the floor. we bought them a little table and chairs set and nothing ever gets thrown anymore. we transitioned slowly from 16-18mos.
