OH MY GOODNESS....both of my girls are majorly teething right now. it's hell! isabelle cut her first tooth last week and now officially has her first tooth, but i think her second one might be coming very shortly. aurielle doesn't have hers yet, but her gums are super white and swollen. they are super fussy, won't eat, won't sleep, scream all day long. i've been giving them baby motrin, but i'm really concerned about giving it to them everyday. DH gave auri motrin twice yesterday and i nearly lost it.

they are drooling like mad, chewing on everything including the nipple of their bottles and the spoon when i feed them food. they have used the teething rings that you freeze, but they just don't seem to dig those. they use the razberry pacifiers, but not for long. they chew on my shirt or whatever they can get into their little mouths. it seems like nothing soothes them. now, they are starting to wake up in the middle of the night just screaming...it's no fun. :(

anyone have any tricks or do anything that worked for the LO's to help ease the discomfort of teething? i'm at my wits end and i feel terrible that i haven't found anything to help them.

    :)

Tylenol or Motrin were my friend when the kids were teething, mostly for nights, I didn't use it much during the day. For some kids, teething is painful & Tylenol will help. Someone once recommended wetting a clean face cloth & freezing it, then letting them chew on that. I never tried it, the thought of chewing cloth makes me cringe, but babies don't seem to mind it. Have you tried baby Orajel?

Oh, we are going through the same thing right now. Andy and Will have been dripping drool non-stop for a week now. They won't eat, they just gum their bottles most the time. Andy started shoving everything he can in his mouth, and they are super-duper fussy. They don't nap well, the don't sleep well at night. I am soooo ready for these little teeth to make their debut. We've been doing the baby motrin for the past 3 days just at night and a little dab of oragel, but neither seems to bring much relief. If anyone has any advice, we would definitely appreciate it as well.

We used Motrin as well as Hyland's Teething Tablets and frozen washcloths when mine were teething. The combination of all of these seemed to do the trick :good:

Hang in there!! It will get better

when mine are in real teething pain i will alternate motrin and tylenol. so motrin first and then give a dose of tylenol 3-4 hours later and then usually motrin again before bed. i know this seems like lots of meds but it does take the edge off, and if it is only for a couple days i don't think it is bad. that and the frozen washcloth and ice in the mesh feeder usually do the trick here. oh and hylands teething tabs seem to make them less irritable.

the worst thing about teething to me is that as soon as they are done with one round, they start gearing up for another round.. it seems to go on forever!

I also highly recommend the Hylands Teething Tablets and frozen washclothes. I think the wash cloths work better then teething rings because they can really get the cloth in their mouth better than the thicker rings. We also used Tylenol.

Thanks ladies! I am so worried about how many days to give the motrin and tylenol. I was reading the side effects and they are no good, especially since auri had blood in her spit up the other day. Tylenol does not work for them, but the motrin seems to take the edge off for them for a bit. They have been waking up earlier and earlier everyday for the past 3 days...ug! I will try the wet washcloth trick. Do you twist it up or put in the freezer flat? A girlfriend of mine suggest a frozen mini bagel in half....has anyone tried that? Orajel just upsets their stomachs, so I try not to give it to them. I'm sending DH out to by those tablets right now.

We are going through this right now. I am alternating tylenol with this product called Gentle Naturals Homeopathic Teething Liquid. It isn't as strong as tylenol but it is natural - I think a main ingredient is chamomile. Anyway, it is okay to distract them enough to fall asleep. I do have to say though that there is this Vulli Giraffe that is a hot item right now. It is $20 so I wasn't going to get it. My friend ordered it and I tried it out and they won't put it down. It is very lightweight, almost seems like foam (it is natural rubber-you can read about it) and it squeaks. They just love it. I am considering buying a second. UGH - out of all the money I spent on other teething apparatuses I could have paid for two...here is a link. Good luck. http://www.diapers.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?productId=15640

We tried all of the freezer things- washcloths, purees in the mesh strainers, and teethers. The teethers are okay on occasion, but the Hyland's Teething Tablets have been like little pellets dropped down from Heaven for us.

yeah, i would be worried too since your LO had blood in her spit up, i would be afraid that it would aggravate the tummy.. i folded the washcloth up and then only wet 1/2 of it and froze it, that way they could hold on to the part that wasn't freezing cold. the bagel might work, it seems gross to me though, i would probably freeze chunks of fruit/banana and let them chew that in the mesh bag instead. hope the tablets work for you!

This is a timely thread for us. I can't believe I'm having to deal with this already, but I think DD has started the teething process. Unless she's got a bottle in her mouth, she chews her hand up to her knuckles or chews on a blanket, and she's a total drool monster. Problem is, all the teething toys we have are too big or too hard for her, grrrr, so we ordered Sophie the Giraffe by Vulli from diapers.com and it came Wednesday. She's taken to it quickly and seems to love it. It's small enough for her to get her fingers around it, and I like that it's not of a uniform density, so she can chew on a soft spot or a firm spot. I can see us buying another one for DS when the time comes. I've heard great things about the teething tablets too. Guess I'll put that on my shopping list for this weekend.

DH went straight out last night and bought the tablets. OMG they really work! They girls are not as fussy today. One of my girls is chewing on the cloth and she seems to like it. i'm going to go out today and buy some fruit and some bagels for them. I just wanted to say thanks to those for recommending those tablets, so far they have been a life saver.

 we are in the same boat! Sorry i can't offer anything that at hasn't already been suggested. I love the sound of the hylands teething tablets but i can't find anywhere in the uk that stocks them, i might look into getting them shipped over. Ruby had a HORRENDOUS night the other night. Bedtime was 6.30 and not a peep out of her until 10pm.. then all hell broke loose till 4ish. It was a nightmare of nights, she just screamed everytime i put her down, poor baby. I hope we all get them through soon.. it's so hard seeing them suffer.

Motrin and frozen washcloths worked well for us.

We're frozen washcloth fans here too! We're not teething yet, although I'm sure its around the corner. But my DS loved them. I remember he liked frozen bananas in the mesh feeders too. They are icky to clean later, but it was worth it! I also read awhile back about someone using the NUK pacifiers. Apparently you can squeeze them in water and they will suck up a little water and then freeze the paci and give it to them. I may try that since we got some NUKs from the hospital. My DS was never much of a fan of anything that was actually intended for teething...go figure! Good Luck!!!

My girls love the NUKs. I will put some in the freezer right now and see how that goes. They weren't really interested in the washcloths.

Hey their for us we have used the teething tablets, tylenol, motrin, also bug and pickles has a teething oil out that seems to work for my boys. I have not used oragel as you have to be careful that you don't use it close to when your babes eat because it can freeze more than the gums and cause difficulty with swallowing. There are also amber teething necklaces, apparently amber has a natural anesthetic nature to it but we haven't tried that yet. good luck
