My boys are on their tummies so much everyday that I am worried about back time. But like you, one of my boys has a flat head. Personally, once my babies could life their head off of the mattress, I flipped them to sleep on their bellies. SO much better, Jonathan's head is rounding out!

My boys hated tummy time and fought it daily. It was suggested to start in 5 min increments even if they are crying. Let me tell you, it was harder than doing CIO at 7 months! I focused on using the Boppy and putting books with big bright pictures for them to look at. Ryan was tough to get to even do that for 5 mins so I would sit on the floor with my legs bent (like an upside down V) and put his head up by my knees so he was doing tummy time, but was also being "held" (or touching mommy).

Activity mat, boppy....I set books, pictures, toys, myself in front them.

I have done this from day one. So, they never really got comfortable on their laying on their backs.

And in the early days, if they fell asleep, they slept.

Our boys hated tummy time when they were that young BUT we pushed them a little every day. We would do as much as they would let us (5 mins, 10 mins, whatever). Just like some other posts I put all kinds of toys and objects in front of them (a mirror is a great one) including myself to try and get them to be interested and entertained on their tummies. It eventually worked because for the past month and a half they LOVE being on their tummies. Just keep encouraging them and take what you can get from them. I think as they get a little bit older they may learn to enjoy it just like ours do now. Good luck! Our boys both had flat heads and are in their 2nd round of the DOC band helmets to correct it.

My kids all hated tummy time. I always just did 5 minutes or until they started fussing, but I tried to do 5 minutes really often. :pardon: I usually would get down on the floor with them so they could see me & talk to them or hold up toys for them to try to look at.
