My girls are 5.5 months old and i am exclusively breast feeding them. recently i have tried to give them some water in a bottle when we are at park just to keep them hydrated and they refuse the bottle. i wanted to know how early people start with sippy cups and which one do you recommend.

I started giving them sippy cups around 7 months, just with water so that they could learn how to use them. I always liked the Playtex sippies, they seem to leak the least.

On my pedi's recommendation, I started at 6 months with water. I started out with the Nuby soft spout :the kids loved them, I hated them because they leaked.

Ditto on the pp...the Nuby's are great and the boys like them...they leak a ton though! We have now learned straws and I've noticed those dont leak as much!

We have the playtex sippies with wide handles which the boys like to play with the most but they actually drink from the gerber sip n smile with the soft spout and angled neck.

we started at 6 months with the nuby, but they would just chew on the spout. now, they are learning from the take and toss sippies. they seem to work a lot better, but do leak. i don't mind because it's only water.

We had to do the same thing early on since we went to Disney alot their first summer. I started with the First Years Take N Toss because they dont have a spout, so if you just help them tip them up they will get something out of them without having to suck at all. Then as they got older I graduated them to the ones that have a spout to deal with leaking.

I waited on our pedi's recommendation and started at 9 months.

We started around 8 months as our pedi said they were getting enough fluids from their formula (which we were struggling to get them to drink more of). They played with it a lot more than they drank from it though until I put milk in it when they were 1.

For some reason, the Nuby handled sippy cups leak, but the bigger ones do not. I bought the Nuby's for the girls because our older child took the bigger no-handle version everywhere and they NEVER leaked, but I've been disappointed with them so far.

Ditto on the chewing of the Nuby's. We have had most success with the take and toss as well. If you look hard, you can find them with handles. So far, I've only found the handles at Wal-Mart.

We started our girls at about 6 months, but they just recently became actively interested in the sippy cups in the last 2 weeks or so.
