We've DEF hit the terrible two's (and it doesn't help that I have a newborn whose 3 months old either) and my nerves are just shot from all the whining and I am finding myself yelling ALL the time. I need to find a way to communicate with them w/o letting their behavior get to me. OK but all that aside what type of toys are your two year olds REALLY into.

WE haven't bought anything new in a while and Im thinking maybe part of the frustration is that most of their toys are too babyish.... so what are you 2 year olds playing with and loving these days.

Thanks for all the help and advice

    Ride-on toys
    Board books
    Mega blocks/bristle blocks
    Plastic cups/spoons/containers

They like the little people vehicles too... but overall I'm kinda stuck toy-wise too. I'm saving the play kitchen for Christmas.

We are in the same boat. The boys birthday is next month... so I'm going to be looking forward to some suggestions! I am mentally preparing a gift list in my head... But here are some thing we have:

    shape sorters-they love these!
wooden shapes that are stacked(from Circo at Target)
    matchbox cars, etc
Little People stuff(right now out I have the pirate ship and farm-$2/each at a tag sale!)
    books
    blocks
    musical instruments
    playdoh

The mental list in my head:

    magna doodles
stringing beads/blocks(they did this at EI and enjoyed it)
play kitchen(this is their Christmas gift)
Mr. Potato Head(another plus with EI. If you have Costco near you or belong to one-they have a set for $18 and change-it's Mr and Mrs Potato and two spuds. Great deal!)

This is all I can think of now. But I certainly hope some others respond. I was thinking of posting this question in the 2-4 year forum as the boys bday got closer.

All the above mentioned are favorites here too. The toys that get the most playtime are the Little People ride-on fire truck, the police cozy coupe (yes, we have it inside) and a pull behind worm. Mason is into books again and Logan has been carrying around a plastic cereal container full of little people animals for a week. They also love their little chairs. We do have the small magnadoodles which they LOVE so I save those for the car. They also play with the cars that you pull back and let them go and balls of any kind quite a bit.

My birthday/christmas list also includes a kitchen of some sort, better chairs, another cozy coupe and some kind of climber for inside.

Mine like their climber (outdoors), and sometimes I'll just fill up a tub of water and put some plastic bottles and cups in there--they can play in it for a while! We've tried crayons and playdough but they're not quite ready. I've heard trampolines are great for this age and I want to buy one maybe for Christmas or birthday. Simple wooden puzzles (like shapes that aren't too hard to fit in), toy stroller for pushing around dolls (and sitting in themselves of course). My son likes stacking blocks, especially the plastic ones that fit together. My daughter won't really play with anything for more than 3 minutes whereas my son can sit and play for 20+ minutes. Oh, there's a cool velcro fishing/aquarium toy at Lakeshore they both like.

My son loves his little tikes Car garage, also he loves his thomas train set with the basic oval track he will play with this for hours. A mini trampoline is also wonderful. My son also loved tractors and cars. He would drive them around the house all day. Good luck.

These are the things my girls really love playing with right now:

Little People - People, dollhouse, bus, airplane - they love it all!
    Board puzzles
    Baby Genius Sing Along DVD
    Mega Blocks
    Stacking Blocks
    Board books
Popcorn popper and this other thing that you push and it plays the ABC's as it rolls
    Elmo - Hokey Pokey
Mickey & Minnie Mouse stuffed animals
Play food and play dishes - a big hit right now!
Dust pan and dust brush (they are into doing what they see me do so I got them their own little sets in the dollar section at Target)
I also give them whisks, spatulas, bowls and stuff like that of mine to play with. They love this.

These are some of things that I'm considering for Christmas/2 year Birthday:

    More Little People stuff
    Pottery Barn Anywhere Chairs
    Play Kitchen
play dishes (they have these at daycare but not at home)
    Play pots and pans
    Aprons, play bowls, etc....
