HEY LADIES!!! Man, I miss this place. Hope everone's doing well. I just wanted to popo in and sk if anyone's read this book and what your thoughts are regarding it. It's taking me entirely too long to realize that this is the real issue with at least one of my boys (definitely Braxton) and I'm afraid I've been going about dealing with it terribly wrong. I've always just labeled him timid, shy, even unhappy. But I finally realized that I was always labeled the exact same way growing up but never truly felt that way. I was just so used to being punished for having certain feelings or showing certain emotions that I eventually began to just say nothing which translated to being anti-social or introverted. This is the LAST thing I want to do to Braxton obviously so I'd love some direction here. Thanks in advance ladies. I'm desparate!

I haven't heard anything about the book you referenced, but several of my friends have read and enjoyed Raising the Spirited Child. http://www.amazon.com/Raising-Your-Spirited-Child-Rev/dp/0060739665/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251813103&sr=1-1

I haven't read it but hear that it's useful for both high energy children and sensitive children.

I've been thinking about getting this book too. Jake hates change and is easily overwhelmed. I am going to talk to their pedi at the 2 yr well visit in 2 weeks.

I read The Highly Sensitive Person (or whatever the original one was called) years ago and had a total "yes!" moment. That is me! I don't remember many of the details, but I do keep it in mind when dealing with my kids, particularly Amy. I'd like to read the child version.

I haven't read it, but I have heard of it - it sounds like it would be an interesting read, for sure! My boys' behavior (Jack especially) has really improved since the time in infancy/early toddlerhood when we made regular pedi visits solely for his overstimulation and lack of coping skills issues. I guess he just "blossomed"... but if we see more of that behavior, I'll definitely pick up that book - thanks for putting it back on my radar!

I also read Raising Your Spirited Child. My kids didn't fit into all of the categories to make them "spirited," but they had a few of the traits, and I still found the book useful. I'm not sure how it compares to "Raising the Highly Sensitive Child," but it might also be useful.

Same thing here. I looked into it but didn't find that many of the traits listed applied to them. I think I'll just get the one I mentioned originally. Thanks ladies!
