I posted yesterday about Marleigh having a bloody nose. Well, in the middle of the night they both woke up coughing, sneezing and stuffy noses. My heart is breaking, I've never gone through this before and have also never had to see my little girls struggle to breathe. Any tips/advice on what soothes them? I paged the doctor because the girls wouldn't sleep, he advised me to just give them tylenol. Well, the Tylenol doesn't seem to be helping anything :(

When mine were little and sick I put a humidifier in their room, elevated their crib mattress if they stayed in one spot, used saline drops/bulb syringe to booger suck, and Tylenol or Motrin at night for the first night or two. If they were really stuffy I would take them into a steamy bathroom just before bed and do their last feeding in there and then I would do one more steam bath in the middle of the night if they were really coughing. I hope they feel better soon.

What helped my kids, is raising their mattress ( putting a pillow under one end of the mattress), running the humidifier (we have a vicks one that we can put a vapor pad in) during the day and night (using the Pedi-sure night light that you can add a vapor pad to), using Vicks or Little Cold's vapor rub on their chests and feet. Those seemed to help ease the symptoms. Also using the dreaded nose sucker to get to stuffiness out of their noses too. Hope your little ones feel better soon

 Ditto the humidifier and giving my girls a bath always relaxes them.

I can't get the nose sucker in their little nostrils, I tried twice. We have tine notrils for some reason. I thought about doing the steam thing in the bathroom, so I just turn the shower on and make it all steamy in the bathroom and sit in there for a few minutes? Obivously I can't give them a hot bath. This is so hard :( I'm thinking of going and getting a humidifier, they have little animal ones at Target...but do you think the vick's type ones are better?

Right. Run the hot shower and just sit on the floor in the room for about 20 minutes. That will help open up their nasal passages and get them to drain. Dont worry about the syringe. Just use the saline drops and let them sneeze them out if they want. My Ped said that sometime the syringe can irritate them anyway so not to bother if you cant get it.

I like the Vicks one that you can put a little pad in and it releases the vapor throughout the night. And ditto to Nancy about the Vicks Vapor Rub on the feet and chests.

The shower thing will work, as will just about any cool mist humidifier. If you can't do the bulb syringe, do still put the saline in their noses, it will help loosen things up and come out instead of staying stuck in there! Hope they feel better soon.

ETA...also LOTS of fluids. Smaller amounts more often if they won't take full bottles.

So far, it seams to me that if one gets sick it is inevitable that the other gets sick as well… and two sick babies is a challenge! (at least for us first time parents)
As others have said, a humidifier/vaporizer helps a lot as does having them sleep at an angle instead of lying flat. When they still fit in them, we had our little ones sleep in their car seats when they were sick, it kept them at an angle and we could have them right next to us. We’ve also done a lot of cuddling… Don’t know if it works for yours, but when ours were sick they settled down much more easily when they were being held.

Good luck, and hope your little ones are feeling better soon!
