Okay so this is probably a stupid question. My son just got his first two teeth so do I start brushing them now? Any special toothbrushes or toothpaste that you recommend.

We got really soft toothbrushes & have been slowly transitioning into them. No toothpaste yet for us. We have the fluoride-free kind ready.

I have been loving Spiffies except when they try to eat my finger! Couldn't find them anywhere except cvs online.

I just take a wet washcloth and rub it on my LO's teeth. I'm not going to use a toothbrush until they get more teeth and then I will use a little baby toothpaste too. And to be honest, I probably don't do it as often as I should. I'm trying to get into the habit so they can get into the habit too!

I used a wet washcloth as well for those first few teeth. I think once mine got more teeth we bought the Oral B stage 1 toothbrushes & stage 1 baby toothpaste.

Definitely time to start. I just got the Jason's Organic Kids toothpaste without fluoride and the Stage 1 Oral B brush and started giving them the toothbrush before they went to bed to just start putting it in their mouths. And if they would let me, I would get a few quick brushes in.

I didn't start brushing with an actual toothbrush & toothpaste until they had more teeth. Then we used a Stage 1 brush with the Oral B baby toothpaste with no flouride. Up until then, I just wiped their teeth with a damp cloth like pp's.

I wish i had this query! Still no pearly whites in this house but i was on the understanding the sooner your get into the habit the better.

Same here only we didn't use toothpaste until sometime after they turned one. Around 18 months I vowed to brush them twice a day...sometimes that happens sometimes it doesn't. Now any time the boys pass their bathroom (and want to avoid a nap) they point to their teeth! It's good for it to become habit.

we started with the fingertip toothbrushes. we found ours at target in the baby bath section. it came with a mild fluoride-free toothpaste, although we waited to start using it. we started out just trying to get them used to the sensation by saying "brush brush brush" in a singsong voice and just getting them to happily accept it in their mouths. after a while they started liking the game and they open up happily and let us clean all of their teeth. we waited until they liked the game to add in the toothpaste component.

they've now got 6 teeth each so this weekend we transitioned to a small toothbrush with a handle (the kind that's for 4-24 months).

We try to wipe down their teeth with washcloths after every meal (sometimes they go for it, sometimes not), and after they both had 2+ teeth we started brushing with finger brushes and baby toothpaste. We make it part of the bedtime routine with a silly song and high fives afterward, and they love it. They actually open their mouths in anticipation.

At our local grocery store they sell "kits" of baby toothpaste and finger brushes. They have Gerber and Orajel; I buy the Orajel because it's cheaper.

Thanks ladies I'm sending my husband out tonight to get everything they need for brushing their teeth and I will incorporate it into their bedtime routine!
