Too Full To Eat!

    Hi everyone:

For the past couple weeks, I've been having a great deal of difficulty eating, as I get so full so fast and end up feeling really sick.

I've been trying to do small meals every couple of hours (e.g. peanut butter crackers, a handful of nuts, polyo string cheese, etc.), but it's a real struggle, as once I start eating I find myself ravenous.

In other words, I'm super hungry, though my twins are sitting right on top of my stoamch right now, making it really difficult to navigate through this.

I'm going into week 21 and praying that I'll be able to eat close-to-real meals in my third trim-ester.

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

    Thanks!

I feel your pain. I am in my 22nd week and think I'm going to have to stop eating the type of meals I've always eaten for dinner. Last night I had salmon, corn on the cob, and carrots and not only did I get full very fast, when I was done I felt like I would explode. I just feel like there's not enough room for everything. Maybe it would help if I ate smaller meals. Nighttime is getting hard for me because by the end of the day, my belly feels enormous and so heavy. Unlike you, though, my appetite definitely isn't ravenous. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat the amount I know I should.

Smoothies or commercial protein drinks (i.e. Ensure) would give you some more easy to digest calories.

I make smoothies with a banana, mix of yogurt/skim milk, whey protein powder (or skim milk powder), and frozen fruit (ie. strawberries).

And make sure you're getting enough iron, lack of can cause hunger pangs (I take 1 per day on top of the multivitamin, plus I eat boxed cereal for breakfast (and sometimes late night snack) every day, which has added iron).

try a boost with High Protein that is what I do. I am having the same problem but the babies are getting everything they need from the boost. You have to work past the taste though.

i wouldn't worry to much about it. during my second trimester i had a hard time eating too but i still mananged to gain enough weight. don't worry until your doctor worries. i think you'll be fine. :)

edited to add that i supplemented with ensure with protein drinks during that time. at 35 weeks when i delivered i still mananged to have close to 5lb babies.

Or milkshakes. I made milkshakes when I couldnt stomach food -- no more sugar than the protein drinks and a whole lot tastier!!! Banana strawberry was a favorite!

I am 32 weeks and i am miserable. My problem is after i eat i have really bad heartburn :bad: thats what makes me sick, Tums right now are my best friend Lol!! I will eat small meals and lite snacks throughout the day and nothing helps. I wish i could tell you it gets better but from my experience it has gotten worse. Hope you have a better third trimester than i am. Good luck

As far as the drinks, I just wanted to mention that I drink an Atkins Advantage protein drink every night. It's the same idea as Boost or Ensure, but with a lot less sugar and I think they taste pretty good. It's got the same 15 or so grams of protein that the others have.
It's just eating the full meals that's tough for me.

i just wanted to add that once you get into your third trimester, as this was the case for me, your appetite will come back...i know my did and i ended up gaining 50lbs. i lost weight in my 2nd and gained in my 1st and 3rd.

like i mentioned before, if your doctor isn't worried about it than i wouldn't be either. just try to eat small meals throughout the day and supplement with a high calorie, high protein drink. or lots of ice cream...lol :)

Oh, how I wish for my own sake that this were universally true, but I can tell you from personal (and current) experience, that this is so not always the case. I am in fact sitting here as I type, willing my stomach to not regurgitate my lunch. Not only has my appetite not come back and seems to be getting worse, but I'm now back to throwing up what I eat. I think its some sort of reflux or something because nothing will set well on my stomach these days. I even think that my weight is starting to slide backward again.

Keep hope alive (and pray that you're one of the lucky ones like Kristine) but know that the worst may not be behind you in the third trimester. :bad:

Be careful because you can actually form a dependency on Tums. I ended up on Nexium and it was a life-saver!

Just wanted to sympathize - I'm going through the exact same. A full meal just kills me for the rest of the night! I'm in full force grazing mode for now...
