I dont think my 17 month olds will ever be ready......they get up between 5:30-6:30 and they want there nap at 8:30, sometimes they go right to sleep , othertimes they will play for half hour then to sleep....they eat around noon and go back for nap at 1:30...bedtime is 7:15....funny they normally go to steps at those times when they are ready for naps....

I knew my girls were ready when their 2 naps got significantly shorter, and eventually they boycotted their morning nap completely. I think they were about 18 months old or so.

When Evan would be hard to put down for his second nap.

For us it's when they didn't want to sleep for their second nap also... so we ended up delaying it more and more until bedtime ended up being 9pm, and enough was enough and we switched to one nap. Looks like yours are happy for now!

I noticed that ours would no longer take a morning nap. That happened for them around 15-16 months.

Brownie110 it sounds like our twins are on almost the same schedule. Mine are almost 15 months and get up sometime between 5-6 and nap at 8:30 and 1:30 and then off to bed at 6:30ish. I have been wondering the same thing about dropped a nap. Some days one of the boys will fuss and play through his nap and then some days they will both sleep. Nothing is consistant though so I keep putting them both down for two naps. We had a hard time transitioning to two naps from three, my boys have always been terrible sleepers. I dread going down to one!

I'm in my second week after dropping the morning nap. They got up at 7am and would go down for a morning nap around 9am and again from 12-2pm. (I couldn't push out their naps because I wanted them to go down at 7pm and letting them sleep any later would jeopardize that). One of my DD's got to a point where she would only take her morning nap about 1/2 of the time and the other days she just played for an hour. My other DD was still sleeping fine for both but just startes to protest the am and afternoon naps a bit.
I was finally forced to try it out when one of their doctor appointments ran long. They did great. I was afraid they wouldn't make it to lunch (which is 11 or so). It's also made the afternoon nap easier too! I put them down a little earlier around 11:45 and they still get up around 2pm. If they wake before 7am they get super cranky by 11:30 but other than that its been great. But I do miss my morning break! Burning 5 hours of awake time in the morning is killing me! :)

    Hi Taurustwins,
Congrats on making the switch. My boys are 17 months as well and we make the total switch to one nap about 2 weeks ago. It's been great! I love to get going in the morning with them. I take them on a walk first, then we go to mall playdates or just play out in the backyard with sprinklers and a little pool. Also, having other twins over for a playdate makes the morning go by fast. Our lunch in at 11am and the nap starts at 11:45. They sleep until 2pm most days. They go down for the night at 7pm just fine as well.
    Have fun and enjoy!
