my boys just turned 3 months a couple of days ago. one of my boys has been drooling excessively. like drenched after 2 mins of leaving him alone. i checked out his gums and there are two small white bumps coming in on the top row. it looks like an incisior or tooth that is off to the side.
is this normal? my what to expect the first year says its early but generally the front tooth comes in first.

HI my twinkles are 3 months old too and are both exactly like you describe, drooling like mad, the little white buds on the gums, and they have just found their hands so always sucking on them or their brother's[IMG]
It is very normal for that age, my oldest two were the same. It could very well be the start of teething, DS2 cut his first teeth (two bottom front ones) at 4 months[IMG]

I would say it sounds like teething to me, especially since you can see the white bumps just under the gums. Our daughter Maddie got her first two teeth at three months which came as a surprise. They were her bottom two front ones. The next tooth she got a couple months later and it was the one next to the front tooth on the top. Our experience is there isn't any rhyme or reason to which teeth come in first.

Have plenty of refridgerated teethers on hand. We also used tylenol when it got really bad.

    Good luck :)

A little early, but definitely not unheard of! Sometimes it can take awhile, but it does sound like you are entering the teething stage!

Sounds like teething to me. It is early, but not impossible. Hopefully, they won't bother him too much & will pop through quickly!

I don't doubt they have started the 'wet' stage of teething. However, what you're feeling are probably not teeth. DD had those too and they are called 'inclusion cysts.' I'm not sure exactly what they are, but they do go away and you can feel them through the gums just like teeth. Almost all children (I believe) get the bottom front teeth first. The drooling, hand-gnawing phase you're in can last for weeks or even months before that first tooth pops through. Our girls started around the same age as your LOs and did not actually 'cut' a tooth until about 5 months.

So, to make a long answer longer...yes, what you're feeling is normal, but they're probably not teeth. But I wouldn't be shocked if they get those bottom front ones in the next month or so!

    What she said! :D

My oldest son cut his first tooth at 5.5 months. My oldest dd at 9 months, and my girl twin got her first 2 bottom teeth at 4.5 months. My boy twin doesn't have any teeth yet at 6 months! ;)

My oldest's first two popped out at 3 months, but with little drooling or hand-gnawing - they just came out. My twins are a little slower. They started the drooling/gnawing about 2-3 weeks ago, and DD's bottom two just popped out.

I was going to suggest if you don't already do it - bibs! They have been great at preventing us from having to change their outfits like 4 times a day. They saturate their clothes (with the drooling), but if we keep bibs on them, we can just change bibs and for me it seems easier and a little less laundry.

I thought one of my little guys was teething really early too when he started drooling and had the little white bumps off to the sides. A nurse said, "the teeth can take a long time to come in and go up and back down." In talking to my pediatrician after what I thought were teeth "went back down", he said that it is usually the two bottom center teeth that come in first and that teeth don't go up and back down. However, little cysts can form where teeth will someday be (hard and white) causing teething symptoms, then they pop.

my twins are starting to teeth aswell, and they are 3 months. Teething can happen ANY time- some babies are even born with teeth (rare, but it happens). I suggest the teething tablets. So far they are doing well for us and have done wonders for all my friends who suggested them to me. Like yours, my daughters won't suck on teethers yet- just there hands or a cold pacifier. good luck!
