our son has an awful diaper rush, red red red, no bleading.

I am using Nystatin (prescription cream for fungal, he got that on another diaper rash he had 6 months ago), let him diaper-free for as often as possible, wash with luke warm water, that's all I can think of.

I am only suppose to put that cream on 2-3 times a day, so what do I put on the oter 10 times? his diarrhea is going away but he still poops way more often that normal, mostly now, he tells me right when he goes because it must burn like crazy.

should I just keep it dry the other times? or use vaseline to create at least a barrier? the diaper changes are horrible, he's in soo much agony...poor guy, he does actually lean down on his head with butt in the air so I can clean and put cream on, that's how much he needs it...

just looking for some home remedies or so...thank you! (I do give him bananas, yoghourt, rice, etc. to make sure his still is hardening...)

    Calmoseptine!

You have to buy it from the pharmacy, but you do not need a prescription. It's awesome!

My friend told me about this and I tried it with my 2 year old recently and it is FABULOUS!!!

First, apply Baby Aquaphor (can be found in the baby section...try Target or Walmart)...then apply Burts Bee's Baby Diaper Ointment. I know it sounds random, but i have struggled with diaper rashes with my son since he was born...tried everything and this is the BEST.

    Good Luck!

my pedi told me that aquaphor is almost the same as vaseline, so vaseline much cheaper. I just bought an expensive triple paste, so maybe I try your tip, of adding vaseline and then triple paste on top. I just don't want to go out and buy another expensive product (burt bee) that I don't know if it works? it's good to know though, I check it out at our stores, maybe they have samples!

about the calmoseptine...isn't that just a zink oxide cream? I tried many of that kind and that never works....or is it different?

    thank you all again.

with the Nystatin that I have, it does usually get worse before it gets better, not looking 4ward to that...

My DD is having rash and that is what my pedi wrote to me:
"if rash is not responding to Desitin, try an anti-fungal like Lotrimin. It will say for Athlete's Foot on the packaging but we use those creams all the time to treat fungus near or in the diaper area. "
It seems her rash is getting better.

According to my tube of Calmoseptine, the active ingredients are Menthol (0.44%) and Zinc Oxide (20.625%) and then a list of about 7 other inactive ingredients. It worked great for a diaper rash we had. It is about $7 for a tube and it should last a long time.

Another tip, Aveeno makes an oatmeal bath that you can use during bathtime. Add it to your normal bath and let him soak in that and then if possible air dry. My ped recommended this along with the Calmoseptine and it seemed to help as well.

Josh is the only one that gets diaper rash and I use Butt Paste. If it does not work try this:

Swipe the area with Milk of Magnesia then follow with aquaphor. Don't know how, but it works.

this sounds interesting... 2 wks ago we had horrible diaper rash (including broken skin) w/my dd and it was during her well visit and my doc recommended the Aquaphor as a barrier and then Desitin... I asked if Triple Paste was ok since I'd just bought it... and like you said... its expensive, she said ok. Anyway, in a few days it was the Aquaphor and Triple Paste at each diaper change. Good luck, dipe rash is horrible!!!

what is milk of magnesia? never saw that in store....it seems to get a bit better, I guess the fungal cream we have does it's trick. I let him butt naked a lot right now. his poop is not really diarrhea anymore but still not firm. it's just hard because he usually goes just 3 times a day, but now, he poops (even if just a little bit) almost every 2 hours...and he complains right away, it must burn. I wiped 3 x little poop accidents today, one of them on carpet, oops!

I just hope he's not doing it much at night....last night he went once at 3pm and cried right away, luckily, he went right down again after diaper change.

Milk of Magnesia/Mylanta is an antacid. The antacid will neutralize the acids that are causing the diaper rash. You don't need to buy the brand name, generic works just as well.

somebody on here got me hooked on pinxav several months ago. you can only order it online and i think the website is pinxav.com, but it's awesome! it's got stuff like milk of magnesia in the ingredients, along with a lot of other soothing and healing ingredients. i love it!

My girls are allergic to just about all diaper creams out there. This very well could be the same case for you. Nystatin is for yeast and if its not working, it's probably not yeasty.

When mine started to react to diaper creams it seemed as soon as I put it on them, they got rashes. When one gets a rash and the other started and I started using it, I could see how much worse it mades it right away. We actually started using excema cream and it would help a lot. But sometimes they have a genuine rash that won't go away and I have to use the expensive stuff: butt paste. We also use vasaline as a barrier when it's not too bad and it does help, especially if they are having runny poops, since it's so acidic. Sometimes we layer some cornstarch baby powder on top of the butt paste to make it stick longer as it does come off in the diaper.

My pedi recommended OTC hydrocortisone cream followed by Desitin or butt paste. Works great. Nystatin good too if it looks fungal.

Is it yeast? It would look like little red bumps if it is. Use the Nystatin for that. If not, I would try Vaseline/Aquaphor and then Desitin or whatever you have. I feel like every baby is different. Everyone finds their own cure. I swear my girls constantly have rashes. It's awful. Good luck. I wish someone would invent the perfect diaper cream.

I tried most everything but found the Triple Paste works for my DD who is very sensitive. I make sure the bottom is very dry before applying it (blot gently with paper towel and fan with another diaper). I think every child's skin is different, and you'll have to try a few things before finding what works. I tried Desitin, Auqaphor, A&D, Boudreaux's Butt Paste, and vaseline before trying the pricey Triple Paste, but it is what worked. I also don't use wet wipes unless she has a BM. My pedi recommended that as they can be irritating and you want to keep that area very dry so your ointment isn't trapping in moisture, but blocking it out. I just blot with a 1/4 sheet of paper towel.

I also switched from Pampers to Huggies for my sensitive DD as they are much softer on the inside. Pampers has the dry-weave lining that works great for one DD, but the other's skin finds it too scratchy.

I hope you find something that works soon!

    thank you all so much.
it is getting much better....I kept using the Nystatin just 2x daily....and in between I did vaseline and added triple paste on it....this is day 3 and it was definetely yeast, with the red bumps. now it's just a small area left and the changes aren't that awful anymore....
I do think the triple paste helped, so I'll get the big jar for next time around....

I also did the aveeno oatmeal bath today and he really liked it, it soothed it a lot, I could tell.

    thanks again,

I second the Burts Bees Diaper Rash Ointment. Cami had a terrible rash from diahrea and it worked overnight. It was really red and sore initially but no more. GL I hope it gets better soon.
