My boys are 5.5 months old and we used CIO to eliminate night feedings last weekend. After one night of really bad crying, they wake for 5 or 10 minutes 1-2 times a night, fuss and go back to sleep. I'm happy that CIO was easier than I thought it would be, but they aren't actually sleeping thru the night. Every time they fuss the monitor goes off, I check to make sure they're not stuck in a crib slat or something and they drift back to sleep. BUT, then I'm awake and have a harder time drifting off than they do.

How long did it take for your LOs to actually sleep thru the night?

    TIA!

Mine did not sleep through the night until they were 9 months old. But even now, they still make noises that I can hear over the monitor. I do have it turned down so I dont hear everything.

I have my monitor turned down real low too. If they were stuck or something was terribly wrong I would definitely know because I have the world's loudest crying babies. I got so sick of going into their room for every little noise. Sometimes they just mumble or fuss in their sleep and they don't actually wake.

The girls started seriously STTN around 4 months, but every once in a while they have those nights when they wake and won't go back to sleep unless they are fed.

I guess it really depends on the baby.

Mine started to consistently STTN at 6 months old. But there are still occasions to this day that they have an interruption in their sleep and fuss or fidget for a minute or two.

Nobody sleeps through the whole night without shuffling. With babies they just add in the moans and groans! ;) My older 2 kids still moan and shuffle at ages 7 and 3.

If they actually wake up, then they may require some soothing, but if you leave them for 10-15 mins and don't hear anything else they probably settled themselves back down :)

I wait for either the cries, or the grumblings that mean they want their paci's back! I turn the lullabies back on and they are usually out within minutes!

Exactly!!!!!!!! We wake up too, to fix our pillow, to pee, to look at the clock, or whatever... We just don't rely on our mommy to get us back to sleep, lol. I have a video monitor so I know exactly what they are doing, but most of the time they just toss and go back to sleep. When we first completed sleep training at 6 months they'd wake up and cry occasionally, but now at 8 months I don't hear them at all at night anymore. I am sure they still wake up but I guess they don't bother crying anymore. I know when my 2 year old cries at night it means he is sick. Although even he talks to himself in his sleep and cries out every once in a while.

Ditto turning off the monitor as long as you can hear when they waking really crying.

I also remember that once my oldest learned to sleep through around 5 ½ months, it took me a couple extra months for my brain to settle down and not anticipate him waking constantly. But we were waking anywhere from 4-15 times a night so I was just fried at that point. But you will learn to ignore the noises that don’t require attention.
