My twins are new to the second year, turned one a couple weeks ago. Ushually when i have been sick - which has been too much in the last year (sick meaning flus/colds ect, nothing major, probably because of the lack of sleep!) I end up having family members come help at least some of the time.. now i feel like i am getting sick again but don't have people around.. my husband needs to work all day.. how do you handle taking care of them yourself when you don't feel well, and you just want to get in bed and sleep?! (i just put them for naps so hope to have at least an hour off now.. but they haven't been napping well lately so who knows!)

Lots of Baby Einstein and snacks. Whatever makes them happy, is what I do. Maybe have your husband pick up a couple of new toys or books. Hope you feel better soon. It's so hard to be a sick mommy. We don't get any time off.

 I hope it passes quickly!

When I'm sick, they get to do whatever! The TV is on pretty much all day and I'm either laying on the couch or on the floor in their playroom. :lazy: Or we'll all go in my bedroom (because they used to find that so much more fun) and we'd play in there. A couple of days of TV will not hurt them, just get yourself to feeling better.

I say plenty of TV, I do the same as Liz. And nap when they nap (can't do that when I'm well but when I'm sick I can), if I happen to shut my eyes while they are awake, they will come up to me and make loud noises. I say give them foods that are easy to make and make as easy on yourself as you can. When hubby gets home from work, have him take over kid duties while you rest.

We all lie on the floor & I sing to them. And let them play with my hair. Or crawl over me. Or basically whatever they want to do as long as I can lie down!

Thanks everyone! I end up using the tv for a little bit but I have this fear that if they watch too much tv and don't crawl around, they won't tire themselves out enough to nap/sleep.. is that true?

Not for my kids it is. There are very few shows they will watch all the way through (Yo Gabba Gabba and most of Sesame Street) but a lot of times when the TV is on, they'll still be running around and playing. Usually they will nap and sleep for me unless they are having an off day. 30 minutes before nap, I do quiet time where they will read and have a snack.

I'm also of the mindset of doing whatever you can do to make it as easy for yourself as possible! I hope you feel better:)!

I'm sick right now so I'll tell you what is on our 'to-do' list today:

I'm pulling out some non-toy toys (tupperware, wooden spoons, measuring cups) for them to play with.
The TV will be on most of the day and thankfully I just got some videos from the library so hopefully they will be entertained.
Maybe some coloring books (but I think yours are too young for that).

Basically we will just do what we can to get thru the next day or two. Meara is also sick, but she is the energizer bunny so its not slowing her down. Also, I will nap when they do this afternoon and worry about cleaning, food, laundry, etc another day.

    Feel better!!!
