This is probably a silly question but when did you first cut their hair? It makes me sad to think of cutting, not sure why, I guess b/c it seems like they are growing up so fast! One of my DS's is in danger of sporting a mullet soon which must be stopped!!! haha
Anyway, did you take them to a salon or did you cut it yourself??? Dragan is my busy mover shaker so I know he won't sit still and I don't want him to be impaled by scissors, any advice or should I just wait it out. I don't need an elaborate style just a cut across the back by the neck to shorten the length/remove mulletness:)
    THANKS FOR THE HELP

You can buy professional grade hair cutting scissors at any beauty supply place. Sally's Beauty Supply is a good option if you have one nearby. Try to get the scissors that have rounded not pointy tips. Then put your wiggly son in his highchair in front of the TV if you let him watch, and clip away while he's busy watching the screen. I don't know that you could do an elaborate style like this, but getting rid of the mullet should be possible!

I tried cutting their hair and I won't be doing it again anytime soon. I bought the shears and used the largest comb because I did not want them ending up with a buzz cut and it still turned out horrible.

I now take them to Snippets and pay $15 each.

Maybe when they get a little older I'll try again, but now it's just too hard. Even the girl at Snippets had a hard time with Josh because he would not hold still.

At least your guys *have* hair. Sometimes I think my boys will have their first haircut when we get ready to send them to college. <_<

I tried to cut Lulu's mullet recently. My first attempt had her looking like Kate Gosselin. Now she looks like Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey, Dumb & Dumber) which is an improvement over the Kate G. cut, but I learned my lesson... no more scissors for me.

I did DS' first cut myself. Just sat him on my lap after his bath and used the baby scissors to cut everything that was past his neck and over and around his ears... It didn't look bad actually (it was in May). He doesn't need another haircut yet... I only did it myself because he doesn't have too much hair on the front yet though.

For DD if we wanted bangs we'd have to do it now, but for now it's easy to just push her hair aside.

I'm in the same boat, a mother of two hairless wonders. Well they do have some hair but not enough to cut. I'm betting the first haircut will probably happen around college for us too!

What I did for R was put him in his high chair and took the part of the hair that is the shortest (i.e. the stuff on top) and used that length as a guide for cutting the rest of it. Pretty much I just cut everything that 2 inches or whatever it was.

i feel the same way about not wanting to cut their hair--however we have a mullet on it's way, as well--can't have that! i would never do it myself, though. salons that cater to children know what to do and deal w/them all the time. so, if and when i finallyg ive in, that's what i'll do.

    best of luck!

My oldest would never sit still for me to attempt a bang trim. Plus I just can't cut straight. I started to take her to my salon and I've done that ever since. I now take one of the twins too (the other is bald). I prefer my salon over Cost Cutters or other places like that, because my salon is much cheaper. Cost Cutters (I think - I'm not 100% positive with this) will charge the canned $9.99 a haircut, or whatever it is. My salon charges maybe $5 for a kids' cut, and they take into consideration that it's a toddler w/ less hair and not an 8 yr old who needs more done. I always take them during my appt, so we have one big bill. But earlier this summer, my DH, DD, one twin, and I all had our hair cut for $55 (excluding tip). Pretty reasonable for a place that's also a spa.

I did their first "cut" and saved it...I think around 13 months. I twisted some pieces together and cut them at an angle. It worked pretty good! We had the opposite of a mullet, the comeover! A few months later my mom trimmed up the back and around the ears. We sat them on the kitchen island (something new and exciting) and I held their hands while my mom trimmed. Around 19 months, DH decided to break out the electric razor with the long clips. It scared the bageezus out of them and I had to try and do the rest with scissors. I did it but it really looked like I did it! I wound up taking them to a place to get it fixed. Turned out they acted just as horribly there. I like the idea of strapping them into a high chair if you are going to do it alone!

My friend used to do her two boys (not twins) in the bath tub...as PP said, just try to trim around the ears and get the extra length off.

I took my son to a kid friendly salong type place when he was 15 months I think. They had the cute little cars that they sit in. Mine sat in a firetruck and it had the bell and keys and such. The hairstylist even had a play cell phone in her pocket along with a couple other quick needed toys. It was great! They bagged up the hair and even gave us a cute little certificate. You can search www.yelp.com for a place like that. Good luck!

I DID IT!!!! Thanks girls! I did it in the bathtub idvididually while they were playing w/squirting toys, I took rounded end scissors and trimmed the back and by the ears and it turned out pretty well, definitely not something John Frida would be proud of but it worked! Thanks for all the advice, I guess I just needed to hear the ideas and gather up the guts to do it!

I have before pics but I'll have to take some afters, but everyone has noticed that they have had hair cuts and seems to be shocked that I did it myself, although I must say that if you look up close on Dragan's back hairline it is crooked but luckily he moves too much for anyone to notice!!!

I know you already did yours, but just wanted to add something we learned. If you take them somewhere that is not a kids salon, which we did for their second haircuts, ask if they have booster seats or take your own. We ended up holding them in our laps and it was a nightmare with squirmy Logan. I think we are going somewhere different this time, but the boosters are going with me!
