For all of you suffering with Puppps I feel your pain. I got it at 33 weeks and it was absolutely horrible. Night and nights of no sleep. I did tons and tons of research, hours and hours. The info that I found is that it is due to the liver not being able to get rid of all the wastes and more common with being pregnant with boys. You want to keep the area dry and free of lotion. Though lotion feels good it makes it worse, kind of like poisin ivy. Use Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. Lather it on and leave it on (can also you old fashion oatmeal soap, the same thing just has oatmeal added in). You want to dry it out. Start by doing it several times a day. I would just lather it up on my body and let it dry on then wash off after 15 min or so. Next Drinking Dandilion root tea. That worked in two days, 3x a day. The soap took it off my belly, but still had it on my arms and legs and the tea took that right away. Dandilion root is an herb that helps the function of the liver. I got both at the health food store. The tea tastes gross, but swear it took it right away. There is even a website forum support board for PUPPPS I just don't remember it. I also put ice pack on it to temp relieve the itch so I wouldn't scratch it. But stay away from lotions or any mosturing products even it is the worst thing for stretch marks it only makes the rash worse. I wish all of you suffering with puppps some relieve and hope that you have the success with these two combinations. I saw some of you posted about it and wish I would have known sooner the cure for it. Hope this helps all of you.

Hmmm...I don't know if the information you were reading is correct. I saw many different doctors at my OB's office and they all said that PUPPS does not go away until you after you give birth. No creams, soaps, or anything topical can make it go away. It may help relieve the itching. Are you sure you had PUPPS? I had it and sure enough it went away after the babies were born. I had it from my neck in the front and back all the way down to my toes. I was absolutely covered in it. I had ultrasounds of all of my organs due to past kidney issues and there was nothing wrong with my liver or anything else. I also had two girls. I think what you are describing is called cholestasis, which is severe itching accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fatigue and jaundice. If you don't mind can you post were you got your information from because maybe I could be wrong, but I got all my information during my pregnancy from the American Pregnancy Association.

I got the PUPPPS too and was told by the doc that nothing (other than Atarax or steroids) could be done about it. I also went online and started looking at natural remedies. I was miserable and used the soap, Atarax & Vicks Vapo-Rub on it and am about 95% better. My doc initially didn't believe me that I had PUPPPS, saying that it starts on the belly. Mine did, about a week before it kicked in full force on my legs and arms. I also didn't have nausea, vomiting, fatigue and jaundice. Seeing my success, my peri's nurse was scribbling down everything I tried for the other patients.

I think it's one of those situations where the medical establishment is reluctant to try anything unless it is in pill form.

    Freakin' PUPPPS!

I also had PUPPPS (diagnosed by OB) and was told nothing would really do anything except to temporarily relieve the itching...besides, delivery. Well, I was so miserable that I did the same as OP and researched like crazy. Finally tried the dandelion root tea...and IT STARTED GOING AWAY after only a day or two! Luckily for me, I ended up going into labor and delivering my girls after about 2 days on the tea so the rash went away but I KNOW for a FACT that the dandelion helped tremendously and would have cleared up the rash significantly if I had been pregnant longer.

PUPPPS stinks. It is miserable. Dandelion Root tea was a savior!

I know for sure I had PUPPPS It started out on my belly and was all over my arms and legs. The doctor diagnosed me with puppps and told me that it wouldn't go away until I deliever and perscriped me cream. I did tons and tons of reasearch and found the soap and the tea. The guy at the health food store saw me and saw that I had the tea and soap in my hand and said u must have puppps and that in his country they use these two things to relieve it. Meanwhile I had been in previously on many occassion buying all kinds of creams and I was like man I wish I would have told you what I had. He also told me the same thing about the liver and dandilion root that I had found on the internet. I called the doctor to double check the tea was okay since it is an herb and it says on the box to check with your doctor. THe doctor said that he has herd that paints have cleared their rash using the tea and soap he just couldn't tell me to go out and get it since techniqually doctors can't perscribe herbs (I guess because of the lack of research on them and that is more common for a doctor to prescribe medication) Sometimes you have to find your own tricks that work a lot of Eastern things like acccuptunre, herbs chiropracture work well just that doctors are stuck on Eastern medicine since it is backed up by medical research. Western medicine believe that it has to do with the liver not getting rid of all the wastes during pregnancy and dandelion is a known herb that deals with the liver. Just like you can drink mother's milk tea (herb - fenugreek) for helping your milk supply during breastfeeding. That is known to help but most doctors will only recommend medication even though a lot of women have had success with fenugreek or thistle tea. Dandelion root is used in eastern medicine to treat of lot of skin problems as they believe it is related to the function of the liver. Not meaning that they is something seriouis with your liver. It is more common with women that are pregnant with boys not meaning that it can't happen to women pregnant with girls.

According to American Pregnancy "dandelion root has been reported to be beneficial to women with PUPPP, it is rich in Vitamin A, calcium, and iron. Dandelion Root has been known to help relieve mild edema and help provide nourishment to the liver

I am very confindent in my diagnonsis of PUPPPS. The group of doctors that I saw during my pregnany are one of the top group of doctors in NYC and have been feature on oprah, 20/20 and are always on TLC discovery healthy so I am pretty sure I got the proper diagnonsis. At that point I was willing to try any thing to get rid of the itchy rash. I just wanted to share my exerperience so other didn't have to suffer.

So I have Puppps now, FUN FUN!! I am 36weeks 5days with my boy/girl twins. This rash started on my belly, then has now spread to my arms, tops of hands, chest, part of my breasts, legs, butt, oh it is terrible! I have tried washes, hydrocortizone, benedryl, dr prescribed atarax, it gives me a little rest at night but I scratch myself raw while I am sleeping. Also I have been using the pine tar soap for about 1 weeks now, and I have been taking dandelion liquid herbal extract for about 3 days. Is this the right stuff??? Should this work the same as the tea? The middle of my belly looks alot better, many of the bumps are gone, but where it is spreading is really bad. I am taking 40 drops about 3 times per day mixed with water.

Any help would be appreciated! Also if things don't get better, I am going in Sat, my dr is in call and will induce or do csection, depending on how babies are positioned in ultrasound. I will be 37w3d, and feel like such a wimp to go early for puppps, but it is terrible as you all know!!

I am not sure about the the herbal extract liquid form I have only every heard of taking it in the capsal form or tea form. I do know that if you are taking it in the tea form you need to let it sit for at least 15 minutes before you drink it so it is stronger. You could try calling an acupunturist in your area. They are really knowelege about herbs and the different forms. Don't feel silly for being induced b/c of it. it is absolutely horrible. My first c-section date was canceled b/c their lungs weren't ready and I cried and cried to the doctor on the phone since I had been counting down the days I had left to deal with the rash. That's when I started to do more research as it had gotten so bad. The day before my surgery after I got rid of it we were watching a baby story on tlc and the doctor on there induce a lady for the puppps. She was a female and I told my husband see it is really bad and a female doctor would be more sympathetic lol. On the support board a lot of women said they would never get pregnant again because of the rash. I told my husband that I felt like rubbing posin ivy all over him when he told me it wasn't so bad and that I only had to wait another week for my c-section. I would try the tea form or the pill form to see if it makes a difference and to keep putting the soap on a letting it dry it out for a few minutes. I would just go to the sink and wet myself and rub the soap on and go watch a show then come back and rinse it off. I would also try getting the dandelion root tea or capsuls at a healthfood store as opposed to some place like a GNC. I know for vitamins my acupunturist told me that there is a difference between vitamins that are made in a lab as opposed to natural ones since the natural ones are in the real form and not man made and the quality is better. Not sure if it will make a difference. I wish you luck and that it goes away and the next few days fly by.
