I need help before I get seriously injured or one of the boys does! They WILL NOT stop throwing objects! Last week I got hit between the eyes with a full sippy cup and man did it hurt! Today I got a rock throw at my head. The other day, one of my guys hit the other one in the back of a head with a plastic bat.
I've taken the objects away while saying NO very sternly. I've done the time out thing as well. It's not helping and as I said, I'm afraid someone, including myself is going to get hurt real soon.
WHat have you found is the best way to handle the throwing of objects?

The thing that worked best with my two was time out. I tried taking the toy away but they'd find another one or some random object and chuck it. SOMETIMES just replacing the object with something that was throwable (a ball, pillow, stuffed animal) would work but time out was the key for us. :good: Though at that age I either had to hold them in time out or put them in their crib.

We replace the wrong item with a good item to throw. Pillows and balls are way better than sippy cups and blocks!!

I've also taken the items away and put the items in time out, but that's more for toy thievery than tossing.

I've done the same. Plus it is TO worthy at our house and if they do throw something at us, DH and I over exaggerate how much "pain" we are in, so that they can see that throwing things at people can seriously hurt.

That's my stratergy too. It takes some repeating (doesn't everything?) but it works for us.

Here is our approach and it has worked pretty well. We give them a very matter of fact "no throwing", minimal eye contact, very little attention, and plop them in time out. At that age they would stay for 1.5 minutes. Good luck - I hope this phase passes soon!

we're just gearing up to this-- we're affectionately nicknaming our daughter Andrea, "chuck" right now-- and she's cheeky about it, too-- no advice really but came to see what others had said. thanks for posting-- and OUCH! a sippy between the eyes? ooooh.
