Tonight my heart is just racing, I havent done anything to exert myself or anything like that, but I can seriously feel it racing. Anyone have this happen to them?

I had that happen to me during pregnancy (and I also heard my heartbeat in my ear  Odd) and when I inquired about it, I was told that it was because my heart had to work harder because I had more blood due to the babies. :pardon: Not sure how true that was (I didn't ask my doctor  ) but I guess it made sense and didn't scare me enough.

Its funny you mention the "racing heart" because this is one of the things that happens very frequent to me. Im on home monitoring and also have to take my blood pressure everyday which also shows me my heart rate. I was told if my heart rate goes 120 or higher, then I need to contact the doctor because my heart can go into "tachycardia". It has come very close many times but if i lay down right away, it calms down. I can literally just walk from room to room and it will happen some times. Its quite annoying.

Early in a pg it often is due to the progesterone as well. I remember getting it when I was lying down. A singleton pg you have 25 % more blood, in a twin you have 50 % more blood. With my singleton this time I had it more in the first trimester and it was more almost short of breath -- felt like I had to breath out carbon dioxide.

Ok thanks girls! I notice it the most when I bend over, then when I stand back up again, I can feel my heart going a mile a minute.

With the majority of my pregnancies, my heart rate was always high 108-120 range. Some days were better than others. Then with my twin pregnancy, I found that taking a tsp. of cream of tartar stopped the icky racing feeling. Cream of tartar has potassium in it. It won't hurt you or the baby. Midwives use it to lower blood pressure. And of course we cook with it. It is also used for getting rid of yeast in the body. I mix it in water and chug. It's not the best taste, but I found relief almost immediately.

Thanks for the tip. I wonder if eating a banana would do the same thing, as they are high in potassium

Just FYI: I recently got diagnosed with anemia, and was reading up on it, and apparently a racing heart can be a symptom of anemia. Have you been tested by any chance?

Not yet, they test for that at 26 weeks. I think I am though, as I am beyond exhausted all the time. I was with my son Donevan, so it would not surprise me if I am again this time. I see my OB on monday, so I'll ask her about it then.
