How do you put them in a cart?

So I finally took the boys to a store and actually put them in the cart. In planning I figured they were still small enough to put both legs through one of the leg holes...I was wrong  Of course I had no alternative so I put their legs through the slat farthest away...it was big enough but it won't last long. So how do you put them in a cart?????? I don't trust them enough to sit one in the back, they would fall over a lot probably. Only Sam's Club around here has the big double leg carts I think. Thanks!!!!

I brought in the stroller until one was big enough to sit in the cart part. That was around 13 months.

i usually put both in the seat part with one leg each through a hole, the outside leg is crossed kinda indian style. they still fit this way but are getting really squirmy and are trying to get out so it really only works at target because they have a really deep seat area. now at the grocery store i put DD in the seat and DS rides in the basket with the groceries, everything gets thoroughly chewed that is within his reach. i'm thinking of getting one of those portable cloth high chair thingies to tie onto the cart to keep him contained and away from things i don't want him to get ahold of.

I have done a couple of things.

I have done the face them towards each other and cross their inside leg in the cart and pull the outside one through the cart leg hole so that one leg is folded in the cart.

Push the stroller, pull the cart and forget about making them uncomfortable.

Put one in the front and strap one in the back in a booster seat. Works for a few things, but the one in the back can finger through all of the stuff in the cart.

Give up and go back to putting them in the stroller since they cant walk through a store and I am tired of the fighting over the stuff in the cart. :gah:

Ditto Rachel! I find it's just easiest to push the stroller and pull the cart. If I was just running in for a few things, I would put one leg through the hole and the "middle" legs folded over their brothers.

I used to put one up top and then I put a booster seat inside the cart. The one booster seat has more of a base plus it has straps to secure them in. Worked like a charm. Easier than getting out that stroller all the time. Hard to buy as much though. If you have a recyclable grocery bag with a zipper it keeps them out of them.

I used to put one in the cart seat up front, and the other I sat in the basket and used a portable highchair strap I bought on the Internet to strap him in so he wouldn't fall over or stand up.

I used to put them in the basket side by side, put their outside legs through the coordinating opening on the side they were sitting on and then overlap their inside legs and then put them through the opposite opening. Every so often I would alternate their legs from under and put it on top so nobody's legs would be "uncomfortable." This worked ok for short trips...otherwise, I took the stroller and pulled the buggy until they could both reliably sit in the basket part of the buggy or sit in the ones with the double "child/toddler" seat things.

Are they sitting up on their own? Does your store have the car carts? My LO's LOVE going to the stores!! I put them in the car carts at Publix and they just think they are so cool!! The trick though is getting them to the cart, I put one in an umbrella stroller and carry the other one and the umbrella folds down into the bottom of the cart. If I go to Walmart or other stores I bring the stroller and fill the basket on the bottom.

.......and snacks is the key!! LOL! As long as my DS has a cracker, he doenst make a peep!

How about putting one in a baby carrier?

I haven't tried this yet, but my plan is to have one in the baby carrier (we have a Moby and Snugli) and the other in the cart's baby seat thing (ours can't sit up yet). I haven't been able to steer their snap 'n go very well with one hand.

Another push the stroller, pull the cart here. I had Aaron to deal with as well, so I used my big Valco to keep all three contained. I rarely shopped for more than would fit in the basket of the stroller but if I did (or was at Target or something to get big boxes of diapers) I pulled a cart behind me. I got lots of looks and comments but I got done what I needed to do.

Mine can't sit up yet so I am limited on our shopping outings. What I did was buy these great hooks at BRU that attach to the stroller handle. I put a reusable grocery bag on the hooks and basically buy as much as I can fit into the bag (and the under basket of the stroller). I can't buy large bulky items, but enough to feel like I made a productive shopping trip.

All the options posted about placing them both in the seat area sound interesting. Does anyone have pictures of your twins sitting in the stroller? I can't picture it in my head and am curious. Thanks.

That's what I do, too. I use carabiners w/ the cloth bags. I look like a bag lady. Big items go under the cart, bags are hooked to the outside of the cart. And in places like Target, I'll get one of the carts that have the child's upright seat behind it...I can fit big stuff in that area (like big diaper boxes). I've done full-out grocery shopping trips ($100+) this way easily. What is helpful is that I can keep all of my parishables together and I request that the clerk repack the bags the same way. That way, if a meltdown ensues between the grocery store and home, all I need to do unload the parishables bag(s) right away and I don't have to fish thru 10 bags to find all of the cold stuff.
